State of the Writer, April 2024!

    It's another boring one! I ain't wrote nothin'! :B

It actually feels lately like I've been crawling out of a pit? So maybe there's a light ahead? But it's also blocked by Balatro lol somepony save me D:

The only other thing relevant to this blog is that I've had notes for a vs. post sitting in my notes document for probably the entire month now, what is wrong with me? D:

Fic recs, April 22nd: Jordan179 edition

Once again, though a good bit late, I bring it upon myself to memorialize an author via reviews of their stories. Though this time, it's different, as I had no connection to Jordan179 and only learned of his passing (three years ago this month, coincidentally), from this post

Another post about video games and Youtube and stuff

If I'm going to waste time watching shit on Youtube, the least I can do is tell people about it. :P

Ceave is a crazy Austrian with a love of video games and a head for philosophizing about them. Plus he really, really hates coins, no matter how tasty they may look.

Do you like video games? How about philosophy?

I like one of those things for sure, but no one combines the two better than a Youtuber named InfernalRamblings, a former professional game developer who now creates hour and a half long video essays about the meanings of video games and how they relate to the world today. Here's a few highlights, since this is now basically my only

The Most Dangerous Game is over! Whoo!

I took lucky 13th12th place. :O Pretty cool. Almost all the judges thought I killed the story with the letter from Celestia at the end. Also the title character growing up alone in the Everfree Forest was a massive plot hole I honestly overlooked. Like, never even once thought about. So yeah, 12/66 is still pretty good.

I'm rather pleased with how the final five ended up, though saddened that more people don't appreciate To Love the Sun. :( Anyway, go look at Obselescence's post for all the details. There are yummy stats!

You were IN this contest? I completely missed that.

It's okay. I appreciated To Love the Sun. Everyone else is pleb.

You have 12th, actually. The first line is a header.

I didn't expect to be a finalist after some of the big names joined up, but I thought I'd do better than 48th, at least.

Wait, how is the thing growing up in the Everfree Forest a huge plot hole? But yeah, the second ten of the contest is about where I'd put your story as well. Which is pretty good.

I'm more than a little tired of how many stories abuse the notion of love so off-handedly. It was nice to see TLTS actually fall foul of it's emotional inconsistency.

Cuz like... a wee babby in the Everfree Forest? How'd it survive without anyone taking care of it? (The answer of course is "through sheer badassery" but yeah, that was kind of never addressed, nor did I even consider it would need to be. :B)

I figured it was just a instance of monsters live in Everfree forest just by the nature of the place. I mean, when one of the predators is animated piles of sticks, biology isn't exactly going to be a winner in that ecosystem.

The winning explanation is, of course, that the title character is such an abomination that even as a child nothing in the forest wanted anything to do with it. Even to eat or attack it.

Well, I kept track of the entries mostly through your post evaluating all of them, which didn't include yours since you didn't review that one.
