It's the obligatory new year blog post.

And yes, I am posting this at around midnight on new year. I have a nasty cold, so I decided to disobey nurgle's one command and stay home.

    Just for kicks

I'm mucking around with Lulu for a work-related project (very boring stuff) and thought I would do a quality test with something fun.

    The odd things

I've just been reading through old comments on my scraps story, after publishing yet another chunk from the ancient cutting room floor. It's remarkable how many of the commenters are still around - but also how many logged off for the last time, soon after making their last comment there.

    But in brighter news

While I'm not making any promises about any particular project here, I am actually writing again. I figure if I write enough of something, some pony words might drop out somewhere along the line as well. You never know. What I'm working on at the moment is essentially a re-write of a story I read a long time ago; an old pulp sci-fi tale, about a spaceship that manages to get lost in the

Well now, apparently writing a thing has made me want to write more things! · 7:18pm Jul 1st, 2014

In this case, this thing.

"Did I tell you about my mother, Pearl? She's got this incredible way with ponies." Shining flinched as Star's hooves shot under his seat. "Celestia alone knows why. And mom? There's no mini bar in here."

For a moment Star froze, not quite able to process what she'd just heard. She drew her hooves close to her barrel and looked up at her son's face. He was still smiling. She shook her head and sighed.

"I'm disappointed, Shiney."

"Well now, there's a change," said Shining Armour. His eyebrow lifted slightly, as if challenging Star to respond. She merely huffed and sat back in her seat.

"What's the point of swanning around like some sort of prince if you aren't going to enjoy a few perks?"

"It's not a good idea to turn up to important functions half in the bag. The risk of impaired judgement—" Shining's jaw snapped shut and he frowned. "Anyway I don't swan about! I have a lot of important work to do on behalf the Crystal Empire and Equestria."

"Oh yes, the very important work of standing around with your tail in the air while Princess Fucks-a-lot eyeballs your rear end. Still, at least now you aren't waving around a poorly-disguised excuse for being royal eye-candy."

Shining Armour leaned back in his seat, while his gaze moved slowly back and forth across Star's face.

"You're right," he said after some time. Star's ears perked up at the tenor of Shining's voice.

"I am?"

"Yes. You would have been better walking."

Tappity-tap!

It's kinda interesting- Twilight ends up endlessly flustered by her mother, but Shining never rises to her bait and takes very competent jabs back at her.

In this setting Shining is by far her mother's favorite child. She actually had a motherly relationship with him and her heart would melt when she saw him smile at her (Star is not totally heartless, which is one of the reasons she's such a good character).

Shining probably doesn't take offense at Star's more inflammatory behavior because they are much closer than she is with Twilight and he knows she loves him even when she's being difficult, and that's something Twilight is not even sure about.

I'm happy to hear you're going back to this story, I've missed this family's antics since Herd Life was completed.

That description of Cadence. Hah! :rainbowlaugh:

Rocking it like a sir, you are. :moustache:

"Oh and I'm going to Twilight's wedding soon so I'll send you a picture."
"Twilight's getting married?"
"...You sure you aren't sloshed already?"

I can't not read all of Star Sparkle's dialogue in Jessica Walters's voice.

More from Archonix? Good.
More No Room for Regret? Great!
Shining able to take it and dish it out? Excellent.

I look forward to the full chapter. :pinkiehappy:

*Grins* Looking forward to more.

Star Sparkle is Lucille Bluth and no one can change my mind about that.
