What spirit beast would you like to see in Rebirth of the Damned? · 8:48pm May 15th, 2014
Hey, so, I wanted to have a little... survey, so to speak. Though it's really more like me asking you about something ;p
Let's say, hypotheticly, that I plan to have a spirit beast appear in Rebirth of the Damned at some point (which, considering that I am mentioning it now, might happen in about... I dunno, somewhere in the next ten chapters). I wanted to- What's a "spirit beast", you ask?
Well, spirit beasts are the embodied spirits of the natural world. They are naturally incorporeal, but may take a true physical form to fight for the druid or shaman who called them. Fighting a spirit beast is harrowing, as the creature phases in and out of existence, rarely appearing in the same place twice during battle. Spirit beasts appear like regular animals, but bear glowing auras and are slightly translucent, even when visible.
Spirit beasts can practically be any animal. Here are some examples:
Loque'nahak
Skoll
Ghostcrawler
Ban'thalos
Arcturis
Karoma
Gondria, Ankha, Magria
Degu, Gumi, Hotia
So yeah, those were all tameable spirit beasts... and my 90 level blood elf hunter has them all!
I'm turning with this to you, my readers, because, while I have the general idea as to where I am going with it (not telling ;p), and I have asked my editor and proofreaders for their opinion, I still hadn't decided what animal this spirit beast should be. So... please write down in the comments your suggestions, as well as why would you prefer this animal if you want. I'll admit, I have my own preferences, and I might even join this little discussion, but for now I do not plan to reveal what's happening in this mind of mine (and for your sanity, it's probably for the best).

2114962 what I meant was what kind of animal (wolf, big cat, et cetera). I have no plans to transport any of those mentioned above to Equestria.

I had kinda assumed that the Ursas were Equestria's equivalent to the spirit beasts, but if I had to pick a different animal made of stars to be found in the MLP world, I would want it to have a name related to the same scheme as the Ursa's, as the ponys who saw them would naturally think they would be similar due to their appearances, so a spirit wolf named Canis major would fit well.

You know, considering all the strange creatures that were introduced in the newest season, I'm kinda surprised that you're all thinking inside the box. And heck, in Project Eclipse I've showed that there are (or at least were) devilsaurs and other dino-themed creatures on Equestria.
Also... I kinda have an issue with using the wolf... for a certain reason

Well, as an outside the box suggestion, I'd say maybe a Fey Drake? They're not spirit beasts, but they are rather mysterious!

I am honestly thinking that perhaps a cat, or catlike beast could be fun, maybe a scaled cat or something to fit in equestrian. My reasoning is that any other bird like spirit would likely cause problems since you already HAVE a phoenix god hanging around (though the two not getting along could be funny in the short tern), Wolves we already have a somewhat adversarial relationship with applejacks injury and the timberwolves actions so probably not able to fit a wolf in easily, Bears... well there are already Ursas. So some sort of unusual feline sounds good and different, though it could be fun to see a dragon or drake spirit or some other spirit... The scariest spirit would probably be a giant angel bunny though.... that would just be evil....

I admit, it wouldn't fit into the spirit beast criteria, maybe for something else down the line? Who knows!
Spirit Velociraptor. Every other answer is both gay and stupid. You want to be a fuckawesome man? Spirit Velociraptor that you can call into battle, ride like yoshi, and use to make your foes insanely jealous and stare in awe, just long enough where you can get behind them and stab them in the back.
What do birds got? Flying? Shit man, flying away is for bitches. Running, speed of Kenyans, energy legs, motha fuckas can't outrun a Velociraptor, only make it grow bored.
Wolves? Well first, good on you for looking like you're autistic. Second, pack hunting and pack mentality? Shiet, Velociraptors invented that shit, and were fuck awesome at it, capable to taking down prey upwards of ten times its size.
Tigers? Shit, itty bitty little puddy tats? What, with their little claws and fangs? Velociraptor claws have been found to be anywhere from 3 to 6 inches from point to end, not by measuring along the outside curvature. And teeth? Well, you can say goodbye to what ever they get their teeth into.
Bears? Son, they ain't even that good of a football team, I can just send in the Packers, and they be runnin off. What's a bear goin to do? Maybe eat a fish, take a nap, like a boss? When you ever see a bear mess someone up? That's right, you nevah do, cause they some pussy ass bitches who run up trees at the first sign a danger. Velociraptors? Man, I don't know if they stupid ass motha fuckas, or have a second set o balls, but they go out hunting other predators, even when there is slow, stupid, and fat herbivores they can be eatin. Nah, they hunt carnivores, so they can impress the bitches.
Velociraptors is where it's at.
I say go with anything but a bird you already got a big flaming one in the story. As for what kind to have i say a Crocolisk, Serpent, or Shark. You should also give Twi a Mana wyrm for a pet.

2115997 Ban'thalos and non spirit-version. ;O There are a handful of hawks in World of Warcraft, though not any spirit versions. They're kind of ugly imho.
I think it should be a horse. Imagine the looks on the ponies faces if Matt were to ride a horse into battle. A WoW paladin becoming a Fire emblem paladin. Ponies riding horses lol.

Yeah, I see that a lot with authors and their fans. Just do whatever the hell you want, is my suggestion. Make it a Manticore, or hell, make it a Breezie for all I care. Don't really know how it'll be effecting the story anyway, only you know that. I trust you to make the right call.
Although I think it'd be totally awesome to see Arthas fight a spirit Cockatrice.

I would say a Frozen Phoenix. It'd be like Philomena, but colored white and light blue. It would breath white fire that'd freeze anything it touched. And no, it would not be a frozen-solid bird.

I'm going to say Ban'thalos.
'Cause all the wolves could either be interpreted as timberwolves somehow, and there are just too many wolves. Same with all the cat ones. There's too many to pick. Wouldn't have any idea how you could implement those ... things at the end, those weird looking rabbit, porcupine things. As for the bear, well, like the wolves with timberwolves, the bear would suffer the Ursa Minor treatment.
Also, lets hypothetically say that Matthias happens to meet this spirit beast, as well as Twilight. It could be a subtle nudge for them both, considering that Twilight does own an owl for a pet?
I don't know, I just say the owl for those reasons. I will admit, I do not know these spirit beasts all that well. I am aware of them, and that they are in WoW, but I do not know their lore. Maybe if I knew that, I would change my answer. But, for now, the Owl!
