Right, so I'm supposed to release chapter 20 today. That's not going to happen. I just don't have it written.
What I also don't have is an excuse, so feel free to be genuinely angry with me on this one. I will stress, however, that this is still my number one priority, and that it's almost ready to be shipped out to the prereaders and retooled. We're not entering another set of dark days. I'm right here.

I was so disappointed all the start of this week when I remembered that it wasn't coming Wednesday, but I was secure in the information that it would come today! But now that it's not, this is the WORST POSSIBLE THING!

The posting schedule serves a very specific purpose, and it has nothing to do with getting the story done on time. It makes me get off my ass and write, plain and simple. After so many years of doing all my assignments the night before they're due, deadlines add a little comfort and motivation to my writing process.

I can agree with this to a point. Saying to myself "I have to write three thousand words today" will end in disaster. Saying "I'll write for three hours today" won't. With chapter 20, a lot of the scenes came hard and I ended up taking breaks to go plan something else.

Interestingly, that first attitude is how I wrote Lacuna. Every night was "I will write 1,000 words tonight" though I make the disclaimer that I felt no compulsion to keep any of them by the time the chapter went live. It was purely a measure to get things flowing, see what works rather than deliberating endlessly on one point or another and getting no writing done in a night.
Maybe that's why I dislike the story so much, heh.

Short answer is no. I deleted, I think, about six thousand words last night that I now have to rewrite. That makes this the most drastic editing run any chapter of TIG has ever received.
I've said it before and I'll say it now: I'd rather be the asshole who breaks his word than the asshole who uploads a bad chapter. The story comes before my image.

Have you ever tried one of those forced-interval productivity techniques(pomodoro with 25 work 5 break, Merlin Mann's 10 work 2 break, etc)?

I've used pomodoro before, but only for school work. I'd never use something so strict for writing.
