Not sure if she'll "show" next chapter, but I just finalized the design of Death Darkness' main alias that got hinted at in chapter one.
Without further ado, Ruddy Dawn, the horror writer:
Yes, the name and design is a pun on "Red sky in the morning - Sailor take warning."
Just imagine that testral smiling at you from a dark allay! 
She's basically going for the "Nopony that sticks out that much can be hiding anything!" angle, with just a dash of "Who'd be crass enough to dress up as a minority and make themselves that scary looking?" Given how the villain in MLP:FIM that got closest to taking over Canterlot did so by turning herself pink and cuddly, I'd argue it is canon compatible tactic.

The weird blackness of her pelt is her cutie mark. Just for the "extra special mark" thing.
Ruddy Dawn on the other hand 'is' just a blank flank with an odd pelt color that looks rather disturbing in the right light.

Seriously though, DD is supposed to look rather androgynous thanks to how much she cheats on her appearance, while Ruddy is supposed to look rather massive and butch.
It will be clearer in text once their actually in the same scene, but DD is nearly a head taller than Celestia, while Ruddy is a head taller than the normal pony average.

She hasn't shown often, but the idea of a mare that's a bit masculine looking while still being rather pretty struck with me. Call me a sucker for tom-boys.

But honestly, if it wasn't for the "blood-splatter" she'd look rather decent. (If I do say so myself.) The whole 'dawn' motif for all her other colors came out rather nicely.
It's just that she does look blood-splattered.
1930931 That's it, I'm going to make you a better writer at most all costs: THEY'RE, NOT THEIR! Their is a possessive pronoun indicating what a group of beings/things have, while they're is short for they are. If a contraction doesn't have an apostrophe, you're doing it wrong.
Yes, i know this isn't the story proper, but writers should learn to write right all the time to prevent mixing up their casual writing with their prose.

In all seriousness, though, the bat wings might be a bit too conspicuous. The only other pegasi with those wings are luna's night guard, and while ponies won't necessarily think that he's got something to hide, they will keep an eye on him (HIM, MKAY?) regardless, and he'll leave impressions on many ponies. Plus, his plan doesn't take into account retards like Blueblood (headcanon edition), who'd blame shit on him BECAUSE he's conspicuous, or kids like the CMC who will nag him for answers 24/7 (assuming that there are 24 hours in an Equestrian day and 7 days in an Equestrian week).
