Question for the people who read Swoon. · 8:36am Feb 24th, 2014
Is Swoon over all worse than Befriend?
Because it feels like it's worse to me. But I'm psychotic when it comes to my own work so I can't be trusted to give my opinion. It just seems like there's less... hullaballoo when I release a new chapter. Am I being paranoid? Wait, no, don't answer that. Am I being paranoid for no reason? That's the important question here.
If I could get some feedback, that'd be great.
nuuuuu, don't put me in this position!
I like both equally so far, so I can't really tell you if one was better or worse.
I liked befreind better because I can't understand the connection between swoon and befreind. The new fic has me a little lost.
A sequel is always more difficult than the original, but I do not think it is worse than its predecessor. Just in a few cases the reader is left confused. Though I am fairly certain you intended that as part of the fic. After all I had to re read the original a few times before it all clicked.
when you said you were making a sequel i had expected it to be what the epilogue in to befriend the stars said, like what it was while he was going through rehab and so on.
I preferred Befriend as it was more mysterious and had more of a feeling of direction and purpose to what was written.
They are both really good but Befriend was just a stronger story.
...
I don't know why people think that Swoon is hard to read... It follows on pretty well... Could've be better but it works.
Befriend was better, but it's also over. So swoon is the only serving of Hendricks fix and the point is moot.
Not worse, just not as good as Befriend.
1869686 Wow, a triple post..
Befriend is just a bit of a more solid story than Swoon..I am no critic, but i think it's because it established so much about the characters, whilst Swoon can't establish as much because of the fact that it is a sequel. However, both are very good stories.
1869714 thanks for telling me.
Deleted two of them
I find them equally excellent.
Whether or not the sequel is better, it is the fate of all sequels to be less highly rated than the original. For most cases, it is because of logical constraints. You have to read the first one first, and produces a backlog. They upvote the first one first. There's also the possibility of ppl upvoting, but deciding not to return for whatever reason.
In a certain fic series, it has had 5 sequels, and a bell curve is forming, indicating the rough number of people who has caught up, and stuck with it from the beginning, and the rest all those struggling to catch up. Especially those of Book 3 and on.
Because seriously, why would you keep upvoting the sequels if you don't read them.
I really do like Swoon.
With that said, I also think it might be a little early to judge it. The handful of chapters feels like a setup to the main story but that also let you get a feel of the situation and what everyone/everyponies feelings about it.
If anything, I would keep going. The beginning of the arc seems to drag a bit for my tastes but I understand, new story - new setup.
i know i late into this but, I feel that no follow up story can match the original, no matter the medium or consent. Take movies for example the first matrix was a box office hit and the second and third wile also box office hits did not have the hype or the amazingness of the first one. Same with star wars and the horrid prequels. Its not that your story inst good, its just that its the second story, and somewhat like the second child, does not receive full praise even though its continuing the story.
Never judge a story until it is finished.
