Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated

    Hello all,

Just got an email from Brony Soprano concerning my health (given that my last blog was about me getting Covid, I understand that some might be a bit jittery). Rest assured, I overcame Covid and am in good health lately (probably better health because I've started working out some).

And this is why I play Tzeentch

Well, after nearly two years of dodging and playing it safe, I've finally been "blessed" by Grandfather Nurgle's plague. I tested positive for Covid this afternoon.

    Big news!

I'm gonna be an uncle come July!

Rest assured the kid will be raised as a proper servant of the Emperor if I have anything to say about it.

Merry Christmas to you all :pinkiehappy:

Twilight+Helm of Nabu=Twilicorn? · 11:31pm Feb 8th, 2014

Again, it's all in the title.
I wanted to bring Twilicorn into the Justice League of Equestria universe, but I didn't really want to do it like they did in the show (I like the show, and I'm cool with Twilicorn, but they could have made Twilight's ascension more... intense. Like, have her deal with some large scale supernatural powers or something (like, whatever caused Luna to become Nightmare Moon, because Lauren said it wasn't completely voluntary) before becoming an alicorn). The first thing I thought of was "Hey, if I make Twilight Doctor Fate, maybe the amount of new magic she has access to turns her into an alicorn", but I just wanted to get your guys' opinions before I go ahead with it.
So what do you think? Yes for Fate induced Twilicorn? No? Stick to Canon? Something else?

ALL MY YES! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! DO IT! NOW!

If you can make the transformation a lot more dramatic, then sure.

I see nothing wrong with either approach for her Ascension

I'd say yes. or maybe she's only an alicorn when wearing the helmet (since the helmet only empowers you when worn)

Its a good reason, but did you plan on hiding the wings normally? So that she was a normal unicorn in other views? But the alicorn with/of fate, or something a bit different? But i'd say its something to go for.

1812280 She'll find a way to hide them until she can think of a better explanation than "a millennia-old helmet gave them to me"

1812296 Heh, it would throw everyone off, but give the alicorns something a bit more than show too to delve in what makes them, them.

Seeing as Marvel crossovers turn her into Doctor Strange, turning her into a character very similar makes sense.

I lean towards yes to having the Helmet make her an Alicorn, but make it so that at first she only is an Alicorn when she is wearing the Helmet until she is able to use the magic without the Helmet and/or gets taken over by Nabu.

Well, depending on how you want her accessing Fate's powers, there could be something along those lines, but as you said, it needs to be something epic. Something that really cements that twilight's run as a superhero is changing her forever. Maybe you could work in some of that show commentary that twilight fears the power she wields, and she'll only gain her full potential if she's willing to let herself go under the power and guidance of Nabu. Kind of like the magic teacher celestia can no longer be for her. It's also possible that Twilight might reject being made a princess in this universe since the superhero mantra also dictates they're guardians instead of rulers, but perhaps that's just for supermare rather than for the pony of order.

I also liked the idea that twilight's only an alicorn in unison with nabu, but that might create a little awkwardness for your maxima chapter, as rainbow wouldn't have noticed any change in twilight that way. It's what you think works best.

My biggest grip with "Magical Mystery Cure" was that all the action took place in the span of a single episode. It just felt rushed. Don't get me wrong, I liked the episode, and I totally love the Twilicorn route. It feels like it's just the next step for Twilight. But yea, however you want to do it, I definitely want to see Twilight's ascension treated just a bit more epiclly. Come on, if they had just split the episode into a two-parter, so much of whats wrong with it would have been fixed. :twilightangry2:

Works for me. The wings might get in the way of the cape, but that's about my only worry.

That is a very common gripe, one that I share as well

I'd rather See Rapidash Twilight, but Twilicorn is good too.

Sounds good to me

1812280 Hey, it's canon that people ignore alicorn wings. Remember Rarity takes Manehattan?

If she was only Twilicorn when wearing the helm, it would be a really good disguise. Who'd suspect a unicorn of being an alicorn, right?

1813095 Thats one of the things I wonder, is the helmet allowing an ascended state, or doe it act as a catalyst to bring them there? The comics and issues I know of in the series, its not quite said one way or another how the magic works, save a kind of sentience to it.

1813282 I saw that in my previous blog post. Yes, it is fitting

It would seem interesting, but I'm more curious to see how you can have this make sense given that the spotlight is not on Twilight in any of your stories - she has no current presence or subplot in your three main stories.

When you start your pony JL, are you going to write multiple subplots introduce how Twilight finds the helm and becomes an alicorn (and how Trixie fits into her role as that groups Zatana)? You had mentioned that you were going to have her... I forget, just show up with the help during Darksied's invasion, but I don't recall you mentioning if she's from a different Equestria at that point or what. If she is, what do you do with the current Twilight?

I would recommend taking your time with a story that is going to feature a large cast of characters with new origin stories. Either make Twi's accession something in a side story, or give it it's own story, before you start the JL story with Darksied's invasion.

Also, did you work out what pony name you'd use for her, other than Doctor Fate?

Personally I'd be sad if the whole "Through the Power of Frienship I am become a princess" thing just gets lost in the process. You have created a great AU, but some of the core concepts might be nice to keep around.

1813931 Actually, she does- I introduced her studying the helmet of Nabu in the last chapter of Princess of Themyscira, and she is going to help Soarin' and Diana fight Ares in Manehattan

:ajbemused:
Well, don't I feel like an ass now. I didn't realize a new chapter was up. :twilightangry2:

1814263 Perhaps this is what triggers her ascension. Nabu is a Lord of Order, emphasis on that title. He isn't used to having anyone with on more than a professional level and remains very much detached from those who wield Fates power. Perhaps by connecting with him, and making him realise that 'friendship is magic'' as it were, she unlocks the true potential not just of herself, but of the Helm as well, resulting in her transformation.

Celestia did say that Starswirl was a great wizard but never unlocked his true potential as he didn't understand friendship like Twilight. Nabu could be in a similar situation.

1815520 I like this idea. I'll try to work it in as best I can, so most likely we won't have "Instant Alicorn just add Helmet", but I can address that in a side story.

1815672 Glad to hear you like it, I encourage you to adapt it as you see fit. :pinkiehappy:
