You ever get an invite you weren't expecting? · 9:13pm Feb 7th, 2014
Like, say, to join or host a panel at BABScon?
Especially when you've never been to a convention before and would probably need to get the funds from followers?
If you accepted at all, which you're not at all certain you will because you kind of live most of your life in one city?
And you tend to get very twitchy around loud crowds due to your asocial nature?
....yeah, that's the position I've found myself in. And I honestly have no idea how to react. At all. Or anything. So, uh...
...what's your all opinion?
I got that too. As god is my witness, I haven't the faintest idea what I should do.
Where's all these BABScon invites coming from?
Lucky for me, I live so far out in the sticks that I never get invited to these silly things.
But in all seriousness, if you try it once, that's at least one thing you won't have to wonder what it would have been like, when you're old and reminiscing.
1807849 You might want to double check that.
1807759 A mysterious BABScon staff member with too much time on his hooves, probably.
1807890 you! You responsible this!
1807928 Whatever do you mean? :liarjack:

1807890 To bad I have neither the funds nor the time to go to a con. Maybe a few years ago, before I started college, but but now, that's for sure.
I just realized the cat in your avatar is double headed.
I guess ask yourself if you'd regret NOT going at a later date.
Host the living shit out of that nigga.
I'm applauding, and will watch the livestream if there is one.
You should do everything once, except a toilet brush or the granny next door.
-Old Finnish proverb
If you are scared of crowds, a convention would not be all fun and games. Try making a list of everything you would gain versus everything bad about the situation. It might help.
1810198 That's actually a really good idea.
As to discomfort, last year at Everfree Northwest we had a fanfiction chill-out, which is basically a giant meetup for people who like fanfiction. We had over a hundred and eight people attend with a hundred people in the room at once. For many who just wanted to check it out they found it to be the best part of the weekend.
I ran it, and one of the things that I did was greet people and help people acclimate to that kind of climate. One of the people I talked to ended up being autistic and had trouble dealing with people in a more exaggerated manner than Fluttershy. He still found a room of 100 people talking to each other to be the highlight of the con. Just meeting and talking with people is actually one of the best things of any con. Just random people who think your cool and share some interests.
I'm not exaggerating when I say it's the best part of any con. It's a unique experience with random people in a surprisingly safe environment (depending on the con, but all except one MLP Con has been this way to my knowledge). So even if your nervous and become anxious around people, if it's still something that sounds interesting then look at it as an opportunity to grow.
I know Babs supposedly has a party floor. I don't think that's quite the same thing, but if you do go I would recommend trying to socialize.
On the other hoof, if talking with people is something you don't like at all, not in a nervous/anxious/some bad experiences sort of way but a honest dislike of talking with people sort of way, then you won't get nearly as much enjoyment out of the con. There are usually lines and in lines people talk with random people next to them or friends that they go with. It's pretty much unavoidable but it also doesn't happen all that often unless you initiate it some of the time.
Also, if it matters, cons are different than sporting events or concerts or theme park type crowds. They are more specialized and there is no rival tension or drunk/drugged up people ruining your time. People are really well behaved.
