US Government shut down - I'm not getting paid! · 7:27pm Oct 1st, 2013
So pretty much the government shuts down, and now I no longer get a pay check. Way to go America... Australia keeps looking better and better all the time.
Anywho, yeah, I'm pretty ticked about this. I probably won't come to work tomorrow either (Same with a lot of people in the army) since we are no longer getting paid. Go ahead, google "US government shutdown" and read about it. It's fucking bullshit.

Australia just had it's own Federal Election and the Liberal-National party won, so many down here are currently convinced Australia is on the verge of the apocalypse and then I hear what's happening over the pond and wow. They would rather grind the nation to a halt?!

For those who don't really know, the government is shutting down to cancel ObamaCare. HOWEVER, the shutdown wasn't really necessary, since ObamaCare will still be active (most likely, Obama is not backing down). Thanks ObamaCare.
Basically, ObamaCare means everyone, and I mean EVERYONE will get health insurance. They are "forced" to get health insurance or pay a increasing tax. Since full-time jobs provide health care, those companies are not going to pay for extra health care someone already has because of ObamaCare. Sooo.... companies will make people work half-time, thus unemployment occurs.
The last government shutdown lasted 21 days, which went from 1995 to 1996.
To put it shortly, the Democrats and Republicans cannot get their crap together and continue to bicker...up to the point of total (hopefully, temporary) shutdown.
I read that they managed to ensure that military people are still getting paid despite the shutdown. So, are you SURE you're not getting a check? Or is it dependant on what your military job actually is?

If he's active duty, he should get paid. Trust me, if they cut active duty pay, I won't be showing up to work either. Not that I work very hard in the first place, but I could work a lot slower.
So I'm curious now where you work. If you say "Fort Belvoir" then I'm going to have to buy you a drink. I'm already expecting a disgruntled civilian who got sequestered to become an active shooter, and for Congress to say "Well, nothing we could have done to prevent that!"
