Hey guys! I'll get to the part about that title in a second.
First off, a little apology: I might've been a bit more dramatic than needed in my past few blog posts. Sure, I'm not feeling all that well, but I feel I haven't exactly delivered the correct message. I've got some medication stuff now, so I might get a little bit wonky in the coming few weeks. You might see some weird stuff from me. But I'm generally okay, if half of my teachers can stop being ridiculously annoying.
Second, a little question: something's been bothering me a little. When I uploaded the first chapter to Traveler's Exile, it hit the feature box, as I expected, but none of the updates so far have reached it after that. Strange, because it's a lot more popular than some other stories that do reach it. I could chalk chapter two's popularity up to a bad upload time, but I uploaded at a somewhat better time today. Are people simply waiting for it to be finished, or has interest waned? Don't worry, I'm still finishing it regardless of answer, I'm just curious. Are you guys enjoying it?
Now, further down the line of questions (and the stuff I'm confused about), is something a bit more long-running. As you might know, I like changelings.
I know, it's shocking. I'll give you a second to process that information before springing some other surprising information on you, such as the sky being blue.
Anyway, I like changelings. As you know, I even wrote some stuff about that! Well, maybe not all of you, if the only thing of mine you've read is Louder Than Words (what are you doing, go read something that isn't bad). When I wrote Thrown Abroad, I wasn't aiming to write something new or original. Just a story with my particular view on changeling culture and behaviour.
A little while back, someone asked me if I was the one who came up with the whole 'changelings have numbers' deal. I thought about it and to be honest...
I have no clue.
Now, this normally wouldn't be an issue, but like I said before, I'm curious. So I started looking stuff up. Not the thing about changelings having numbers, because I'm pretty sure I didn't come up with that, but on another front: I started looking around for words like everyling and anyling. You know, the other stuff I came up with. I simply used the search bar at the top of the site here.
The results absolutely surprised me! I'm far from the only person who uses those terms! I know that there's a fic or two written by people who were inspired me, but there's like... a lot, man! Even Wanderer D used it, and he's a super cool dude and stuff. A lot of other people are using it, too!
It's kinda funny, but now I'm wondering if I really am the guy who came up with that stuff. The answer doesn't even matter, I just wanna know! I've been too shy to bother people with it, though. It's really only a minor thing. But it's been really nagging at me. Sure, I came up with it at some early point, but I don't know or think I've invented it, per say.
If anyone has some more concrete info on this stuff, hit me. Not literally, but let me know.

... all I know is that I have a Changeling fic idea in mind...
I added it to my favorites and liked it. I don't think I can give it much more attention than I'm giving it already. At least, not without coming off as some sort of creepy stalker. *shivers* Heaven forbid the day that I become a pedophile of any sort.

I've written a changeling fic of my own, using -ling terms from time to time. I have no idea who thought of them first.
I fairly sure Thrown Abroad was the first place I saw the use of 'ling terms, though I have seen them in plenty of other fics since. As for changeling numbers, I don't think I've seen that anywhere else.

I think that's only for the first seven slots, reserved for completely new stories, if I remember correctly. The last three slots are for recent updates, and it simply doesn't show up there.
Question: If your first story hadn't been so popular, would you have written the sequel?
I'm definitely still enjoying your work. As for other stories using numbered changelings and "everyling" and such... well... truth be told I haven't read any changeling fics outside of your stories.

I don't know. The incredible support people showed me when I was writing Thrown Abroad and subsequently My Little Changeling sure did inspire me.
Stuff makes the box according to some sort of algorithm that Knightly used when he set it up. I'm not sure how it works, but basically it uses a mix of faves, likes, and comments in a certain time period. I'm guessing if you got all your likes and watches at once it'd show up, but probably won't show up much if such things slow to a trickle.
Still, the bottom three slots in the feature box are reserved for updated fics with a decent popularity. However, how long your story stays there depends on whether other people upload when you do and whether or not someone with a more popular story chimes in and takes the spot.
At least, that's been my observations on the issue.
First place I saw hive numbers used in relation to changelings was probably in TeaPartyCannon's stories. Although I have no idea whether your stories or TPC's came first, I just know I like both of your two's stories.
Whether you were the first one to use it or not, I'm not really sure, but I do know that the first place I ever saw all the "-ling" words was in Thrown Abroad. As for the numbers......I honestly can't remember. I know I've seen a couple other changeling fics use it....but I can't for the life of me remember the order I read them in.......
The feature box thing confuses me because I honestly have no idea. It does weird things sometimes. I know that I, personally, am enjoying this story every bit as much as its predecessors, regardless of whether or not it shows up there. The list of changeling fics on this site that aren't terrible is very short, so no matter what that box says you should be proud that your work is firmly on that list of good stories.

I'm aware of how it works, it's just that my experiences with past fics have been quite different. I'm guessing 'new' interest is just fairly low: people are reading the updates, but there aren't many new viewers.

To be honest, I'm leaving it up to the reader to fill in that part.
When it comes to a sequel your target audience are the people who read the previous story. Of course not all of them are going to read the sequel, so sequels generally get less views than the story before it. Of course there are a lot of people who try to make up for it by not even bothering to read the first story too. It evens out a bit.

I really don't like having to put up with any sort of cliffhanger. Is why I have 501 stories in my read later.
There is also that you can only like and favourite it once, which may be keeping it out of the feature box, but few people really know how that box works and I'm not one of then.
