Favorite FIMFiction Characters - #10 · 1:01am May 4th, 2013
Alright, it's about time for another editorial blog...or perhaps a series of them.
See, FIMFiction is notorious for having several thousand interpretations of MLP. We've seen dramas, tragedies, comedies, romances, the whole nine yards. But what really impresses me about all of them are the characters that have been created to go into those stories. If you look around the stories, it is guaranteed that you won't find two characters that are exactly alike. You can already tell where this blog is going, and have probably heard this too many times to count.
So with that said, we already know there's no right or wrong answer in picking a favorite character. That means I shouldn't have to worry about making ten blogs dedicated to the characters I've fallen in love with across all stories, whether it's an OC or just a unique interpretation of a pony. The only guidelines for this list is that I'm gonna limit myself to one character per blog, their story has to be on fimfiction, and I have to have read the story they're from. And just to be fair, I'm only gonna pick one character per story/series.
Let's get this underway. My top ten favorite FIMfiction characters. But first...I'm gonna need to put up my flame shields.
#10 - Firewall, from "Through the Eyes of Another Pony"
Don't kill me. He's still on the list, isn't he?
Firewall's story is already well-known by everyone, so I'm not gonna waste time talking about how I like his story, or why he works for it.
In any case, there is a good reason he's low on the list, but I'll get to that in a moment. You all probably know about this guy by now, I'm sure. It's Firewall, the most famous Human in Equestria in the history of fimfiction. This is the one that set the bar for HiEs, and again, for good reason. He's smart, witty, easily distracted, and an all-around immature hero of Equestria. When you see this character, you're guaranteed a huge amount of laughs. Yet with all that, you still see his flaws in his humor. How he can be too funny in the wrong moments. That's a hard thing to pull off, but somehow, CardsLafter managed to do it. And his narration is just so hilarious, that you don't really seem to mind it too often. It adds even more depth and character to him, and really solidifies him as a likable protagonist.
Now he's only so low on the list because I've seen that smartass protagonist too many times before. It's been done in cartoons, movies, video games, everything. His character is just the first successful transition of it from normal media to Pony Stories, proving that with the right amount of creativity, you can breathe life into something that's been overdone to death. Hell, even with my own stories, it's only because I was able to read Firewall's story that I managed to make Omnius into a successful witty protagonist. Even then, there were obvious places I myself failed.
But that's besides the point.
Firewall is a great example of wit and absentmindedness, and I love seeing that done in a fresh way. I can't think of anyone else more deserving of the number ten spot.

It has been ages since I read Through the Eyes of Another Pony, but I do have fond memories of it. I agree with your list so far, but we'll see how the next ones fare.
I can honestly say that that story made me laugh more than any other story in the history of ever. If only he could continue the story.

Ahhh, can't beat the classics. I just wish CardsLafter would finish his book so he can update Through The Eyes of Anotherpony.

It's funny, I actually kind of preferred the original chapters to the rewrite.
