Vault Queue Cleanup and Other Sundries · 7:21pm Mar 6th, 2013

I've spent the last few weeks making a concerted effort to work through my review queue for the Vault. Part of it is thanks to adding a little widget to my user page here that I update every few days, tracking how many stories I have left to read in chapters and words, as well as how long the oldest story's been sitting in my queue. It's a little thing, but it's been really motivating apparently, even if no one's noticed it - at its peak since I added the widget, it was hovering near 70 stories, 600 chapters, over 3 million words, with the oldest story being "before the dawn of time" (a.k.a. I queued it so long ago it was before I upgraded my queue system to track when I queued stories - yikes!)...

Today it's sitting at a perfectly manageable 25 stories, and it's the first time I've seen this side of two million words in... I don't even know how long. Writing this reminds me I need to do a culling of my RIL to find newly-completed stories to add, so I'm sure it won't last long, but it's nice for now.

Also, if there are any authors out there who self-submitted before I put my moratorium on the practice in place and haven't heard back from me yet, I've worked through all of the stories that I recall being self-submitted, and you've either heard from me or not by now. If you haven't heard from me, well, I'm sorry. (Really, I am.)

Aside from that, how've you been? I hope you're well. Feeling a touch conversational myself, for some reason, probably thanks to all the reading I've been doing. Feel free to drop by in the comments to say hi, if you like. I've noticed some new followers over the last few weeks; feel free to sing out and introduce yourself. I'm always interested to know why someone would feel compelled to click that creepy eye button next to my name.

This is inda random, but every time I look at your profile pic it looks like RD's head floating on top of messed up stick figure legs. :derpytongue2:

And now that's all I can see! :raritydespair:

Well, I decided to follow you for a peculiar reason. I only follow people if I like them as a person, not as a writer. And you're one of them!:pinkiehappy:

I may have said this before, but it's most for the interviews mostly. Every so often you interview an author I like, and I'd probably miss them if I just relied on the front page. The Vault is an awesome idea, by the way. It's good to see someone thinking of the future.

The widget idea is a good one, I may steal it. I want to keep my followers up to date with what I'm doing (or not doing, as is often the case when life gets in the way) pony-words wise, but I don't want to spam them unless I have real news. A widget on the user page seems like a great way to do this.

So... I should probably keep my ritualistic goat-sacrificing ways to myself, then?

I do miss the old front page; don't get nearly as many comments these days.

And feel free to steal! I've seen authors use them to keep followers apprised of levels-of-completeness of upcoming chapters/stories, etc.

Hello!

Hello. I think I started following you after you started doing the polls, but I can't remember now. :facehoof:

Anyway, it's good that you don't accept self-submissions anymore, because I can only imagine how heartbreaking those rejection letters are to those writers.

Man, I wish I was half as good at cutting down my read-later list.

Any particularly good finds?

I certainly don't care for writing them. Hope always seems better than disappointment, I think.

If it's any consolation, my RIL here at FIMFic has been holding steady in the high 70's lately; all the incomplete fics I think sound good but won't get to until they're complete. The review queue I'm talking about here is only completed fics.

And yeah, I found some good ones, but I'm sitting on them for now until I have a chance to invite them to the Vault! Crazyhead.

Man, you must be a pony fiction reading machine! I don't dare read any. My brain has a way of picking up details from stories and then thinking they are my own. I've lost track of the number of times that I've written something and then watched an episode again and found a similar scene. :pinkiesad2:
