A good story isn't measured by how long it is, but by how long it stays with you.

Well This is Awkward... · 10:24pm Oct 25th, 2023

It isn't really, but I'm at a loss as to what to title this blogpost, so yea, we'll just say that. This blog post is about Compati.

When I began writing Compati, I had an idea and a perspective on that idea. In piecing the story outline together, I effectively took a snapshot of my thoughts at the time and then proceeded to write that to its logical conclusion. But it's been five years (going on six!) since then, and strangely enough, I never stopped to ask myself if my thoughts on the matter had changed over the course of writing this story.

Over the last month and a half-ish, I've been having conversations with people who have read the complete current story, and they've gotten me to sit down and really look at the story, its message, and my true deep-down thoughts on the matter now at this point in my life.

All this is to say, I'm not the biggest fan of certain aspects, both published and unpublished. So I'll be rewriting it.

Not entirely, but there are particular scenes that I want to change, narrative beats that need clarification and the like to better fit the message I want to send.

I've taken down everything but the prologue for now, as that part is most certainly staying as is. Rewriting shouldn't take too long, and I'll re-publish chapters as I'm confident they better align with the message I want to send. Sorry for those of you eager for more Sunset horse words, but this story is special to me, and I want to make sure it's as good as it can be.

To those lucky 26 of you who own a physical copy, congratulations. You have something that is now very unique, and even though it's not the Compati I now want to share with the world, I hope it's still something special to you.

Onward and Upward!

Hey, at least you didn't miss an entire chapter in the first batch of books you made!

Honestly, it takes a lot of guts to acknowledge the problems in a project you worked on for so long. I'm hella proud of you for not backing down from that, and even moreso for putting in the effort to make it better 🙏

Onward and upward \o/

You're never gonna let yourself live that down, are you?

Maaan I was just getting ready to sit down and finally read this end to end. First few chapters were great. Really evocative.

Oh well, I can wait a while longer. :)

haha whoopsie-doodle c_c

Extremely disappointing. I suggest you post the rest of the story as is and fix whatever it is you've been convinced to change later.

Bravo on realizing you've changed. n_n

This reflection happened in tandem with that month-ish-long conversation. This wasn't an overnight decision, and I did not not make it lightly. I was not convinced of anything, merely given good reason to sit down and do said reflecting.

I want what's best for the story, and that is the story I want to tell. I know it's frustrating to have to wait, but here I am asking that of you.

I am a professional fuck-up. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise.

I think I sorta can tell where this is coming from, having read the entirity of what was up until unpubliccation. Glad you could come to terms with yourself about it. Onward and upper, to the brighter shimmer on the horizon.

Will the original version ever see light of day as a buried stash, or be locked away?

For now, I think the answer is "locked away," but that may change. Maybe once this new version is done, completely published, and left alone for a while.

I'm sure whatever you change will not affect my enjoyment of this. Would have been cool to have one of those rare copies, though! lol

To slightly modify what a wise woman once said, "You are now banned from Path of Exile until you fix At Least One Chapter"

If I actually banned him from PoE, imagine how much he could get done? None of us would stand a chance in the face of so many horsewords x_X

I'll admit that I felt my heart clench when I suddenly saw that all the chapters were gone, but I can understand the need to rewrite and improve the things you feel you need to. I'm looking forward to seeing what you end up with. This story is special to me too, and affected me greatly as I read it. I live for every single Copper scene <3

Best of luck with the project!
