Hmmm...
Requires more input, but I am intrigued.
It looks like Spring is giving a real effort at not being manipulative... but you can see where she is getting excited at the prospect of being able to be manipulative.
So basically Spring's people live for centuries but never live. So how long till she either needs to be sent to the looney bin or goes local?
aggrivated - aggravated
*****
Wow, the floodgates are starting to open (or the dam is about to burst) and we're getting a lot of good information, both on Spring's character and Coco's.
This goes a long way in explaining Spring's personality and mercurial nature. Purely speculating as I'm not a psychologist, an immortal or very nearly immortal creature must need to have a very different mindset, a way of looking at and prioritizing their existence, to cope with the very long time that they will be active. It's something so alien to creatures that live vastly shorter lives that it's nearly impossible to grasp clearly. For an elf to admire and aspire to live life as a non-immortal would cause a cognitive dissonance on a scale that could drive an immortal creature to mental illness. Simply rationalizing the conflict away would not be enough, and I could easily imagine that it could shatter their psyche into separate aspects that would constantly be in opposition, leading to erratic behavior.
In short, Coco may be having tea with a living stick of dynamite with a very short fuse.
It may be possible to resolve Spring's inner conflict in a benign manner, if she truly is conflicted, but it might take another near immortal to bridge that gap and help her to reconcile the warring parts of her mind and nature.
I hope that the bright side of Spring's nature is in control when she decides to cash in that favor that Coco owes her, since Coco didn't know she could, and should, set conditions.
Hmmm. That true name thing, reminds me very much of the Eragon book series. Coincidence?
7561120 Your thoughts make me curious. Near as I see, and I could be wrong, she could adjust to being with these folks just fine, not that there isn't a lot of adjusting to do.
Things will only explode violently when those people begin to show signs of aging and weakness when she's still fit and young and perfect. The very first wrinkle will be cause for alarm, as people shouldn't change besides clothes or makeup worn.
Imagine her reaction then, and the likely excessive magic thrown around to combat it fiercely.
But can she slay death? Not forever, one would think.
7561125
Both are based off of an older idea that True Names can confer control over people.
I'm not sure where the idea comes from at first, although I suspect superstition. At times its been that knowing demons names confer power over them, or that by knowing your name a witch could cast a spell on you.
Here it seems to be True Names are magical names unknown to most.
7561135
That is why i thought Eragon. It's exactly the same.
7561125 It's almost certainly coincidence. The idea of "knowledge is power" taking the form of "knowing something's name gives you power over it" is ancient, and existed long before a single book series.
(The idea that the name must be "true" is the answer - developed back when people widely believed that this and other sorceries were real - to why this form of magic self-evidently doesn't work; e.g. it preserves the idea that this really does work, but that the correct names are hidden.)
7561133
I'm not a psychologist, and certainly have no knowledge of abnormal psychology in fae, so I'm just spitballing with what I have learned about cognitive dissonance and how humans tend to resolve it and extend that to what I can imagine might be going on in the head of a young elf that wants to live like a mortal.
It could very easily be that she has mental processes and means of coping that are perfectly up to the task without developing into a classical mental illness, but I'll have to leave finding the path to a happy and well-adjusted Spring to the author.
Maybe all she needs is a professional friend.
from your story
were did you get it from, it would be cool if it was from eregon
7561192 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_name
7561213 ok but the idea that an elf would know the true name is a diffent idea, i have never seen another story with true names and an elf knowing it
7561269 My literal thought process:
Fae respect true names.
Elves are traditionally fae.
Elves, being fae, respect true names.
There was no attempt to reference anything besides mythology/fables in general.
7561285 OK! fae, you had the character say in the beginning some thing about two kinds of elves ones that are fae and not, whats the difference?
? = Be it but a small thing but comma needed. Also 'in fuss' or 'fussing', seems like ye olde English style, is it intended? As the former doesn't seem necessary in modern narrative.
7561173 She just needs 'A FRIEND' in general.
Coco is too nice, I would have been offended at that remark.
So by Spring having a baby, not an elf but imbues the life force of what she envies around her, she wants to be a part of that life, is that the trick question?
7561291 That comma doesn't make sense. What article are you separating out? That's all one statement.
7561213 Reminds of a short story The Nine Billion Names of God by Arthur C. Clarke, if you're religiously minded(not saying you are, i am no longer) it's a little eerie.

'Spring smiled a little at that she was in fuss around her kitchen' This statement with this inserted between commas in the middle 'watching the owner of the apartment' without the insert it reads as a standalone sentence. At least that is how I understand sentence construction.
edit: Maybe it should be 'Spring smiled a little at that, watching the owner of the apartment fussing around her kitchen' ?

Welcome to Indiana, the land named after Dogs people.
I did some digging of the possible etymology of my name, and back a couple thousand years or so got how it was derived from surname, forename, occupation, placename. Nomonative Determinism can be really sneaky.
But what type of favour does Spring consider equal to the favour of telling another her history? If you look at it, the reasons Elves take a long time to mature isnt because they have lots to learn, they just take a long time to do so, seasons unchanging, each year like the last.
that and an Elf that decides to crank things up like a human, can be Level 20 before they leave teenager, and hit Level 40 Epic/Heroic long before middle age. This is Pathfinder levels where L20 Pathfinder equals about L100 Pokemon, WoW and L40 is Gods class.
7561469 That's why demihuman level limits were a thing, at least until a bunch of bleeding hearts decided that elves and the rest deserved the same advancement opportunities as humans. That's when everything went to hell; now we can't even call them "demihumans" anymore.

SNERK, OH now I have to hit the FOLLOW button on you, translated my name once, it came out as Loyal Left-side (or left handed) no idea what that is supposed to represent...oh well. I can only guess I'm supposed to stand on the left side of someone I'm loyal too? Constantly alone so stuff knows who that is?
All else to say about Spring is whatever favour she demands of Coco, it's going to be a doozy!
7561512 My name translates to Beloved Silver.
7561592 A meaning in Greek for Silver is incorruptible, so it only gets better.
I left enough cryptic clues for my name, see if anyone is cluey enough.
7561500 The same reason there is nothing entertaining on telly anymore, bleeding heart do-gooders. Now we turn to the internet for enjoyment.
7561357 It's 'watching the owner fuss around her kitchen'
With 'the owner' modified by 'of the apartment' and 'the apartment' modified by 'she was in'
7561730
OK that makes sense but still needs a comma but between 'was in' & 'fuss'.
7561311 Is this better David, sir? (sorry such a little thing is driving me bonkers)
7561777 No it doesn't. If you take out the modifiers, 'Watching the owner, fuss around her kitchen' is an unnecessary and confusing comma.
'she was in' could probably be removed since it's completely redundant, but it's fine as it is.

name's I find this interesting as I remember a older book story line and one of the books was the book of names.
author john peel the book story line if I remember right Diadem.
Since we're looking up what our names mean, here's what I found: Yahweh-is-gracious ford-near-a-slope lime-tree-stream.
Yeah, that makes no sense.
So that's why Spring is adventuring: she doesn't want to survive, she wants to live, have personal purpose and drive. It reminds us of that scene in Wall-E. For now, Spring feels more or less purposeless and bored.
Let's just hope she doesn't suffer Immortals Syndrome...
Keep going, ;)
So Spring beastly rape fetish grow from her conviction that she could gain some of beast life and become more "alive" this way?
7561512
Historically left sided or "Sinister" meant bastard. I'm guessing right handed people decided it meant evil.
7561641
Sinestro, is that you?

Jewish religion records God's name as JHVH which is meant to be unpronouncable. I believe Yahweh was an attempt to pronounce JHVH and give God a name.
Despite the needlessly overwhelming haughtiness, pure arrogance, and blatant racism and superiority complex, that was a surprisingly insightful statement from the elf bitch.
