I do finally like Tabitha actually being assertive, for once. It's nice.
And yeah, Bubbles not wanting to work makes more sense than not being able to work. Stealing is a risky and somewhat difficult venture, but it is an opportunity where you not only control yourself, but an opportunity you make yourself. No need to wait for someone to offer you something, you just take it!
How convenient!
7482419 Tabitha has firmly asserted many things, just not the things you want her to assert and especially not the way you want her to assert them. Submissive, she is not.
Bubbles is going to have the most, intresting, time.
Biggest problem Tabitha has now is will she have a combination of problems, cross between equine and human, and go into heat once a month or best case both cancle out, so she doesnt have to go elf hunting?
7482430
In what way do I want her to assert things?
I know this is about Spring... so... I'll just ask: Should I simply accept that she's great and unstoppable, and like her for that?
That's how it feels.
7482463 Why? Tabitha doesn't like her. Their last conversation was far from friendly. The only things she didn't do was kick her out or outright attack her.
7482476
I was frustrated that the end of the conversation was Spring walking away smugly and Tabitha deciding that she should be polite, even though Spring was not being polite (the whole "you don't like what I did? I'll say "thanks" for something you'd do for anyone and then expect you to thank me for the damaging "favor" I did for you" is not an example of someone being polite, is an example of someone being manipulative and arrogant.)
I expressed frustration at that, borne of how Spring always "wins" every conversation, and now you seem to think I want people to sucker punch her and shouldn't think of whatever I think.
That makes me think that, ultimately, I shouldn't dislike Spring.
Finally Bubbles is doing something great with her life !
Now to start guessing how her first day will be like haha.
7482501 I admit I'm confused at this returning thought of 'liking' Spring. Nobody in this story likes her, except her. She likes her quite a lot, but people full of themselves tend to do that.
Let's strike to the point, what is it you're hoping to see?
7482507
I'd like her to be "taken down a peg" which would basically, sans violence, mean that someone makes a point she cannot counter with something else, or someone else runs circles around her in a conversation, or, heaven forbid, someone gets her to understand that other people are actually important and what they feel or want isn't something to be ignored.
Or heck, even that it's clear she's ignoring things in order to prove her point to herself, or that she's appreciably wrong in some way. Something that is a flaw coming from her that is clearly a flaw and not a "her perspective is just different."
I doubt that's going to happen (maybe the latter where she's clearly flawed but cannot see it) and don't force it on my behalf.
7482567 Oh, we don't know her very well. She looks pristine and perfectly annoying so far.
That will likely change.
Well let's see is Tabitha's "friendship" will change Bubbles for the better. And now I am hearing Bubbles voice as Bubbles from PPG.
doesn''t quite - doesn't quite

*****
Good chapter today, I never would have expected Tabitha to try to build a bridge between her and Bubbles.
It takes a thief to catch a thief, they say. However, I imagine that any thieves that try to break into an unoccupied room, especially at night, are literally not long for this world. Or, they could inadvertently trigger the opening days the apocalypse. Tirrek hasn't happened yet and it was never established how he broke his bonds in time to escape when Cerberus went for a short romp in Equestria.
Also, I'm not sure if it's by design or just random but the earlier posting times are working out well for me getting through and responding before having to leave for work. And the typos are a healthy addition to a balanced breakfast!
7482618 It's a bit late for her to cause it, since the Cerebus escaped a while ago.
The gang's all gathered now! That being the main trio of ponies. Only Trap has avoided living in the same place, so far.
7482629 Glad to serve! I just happen to be awake, so post!
7482567
7482507 Maybe one of her 'magics' could backfire on her if she tries something on another pony inside the apartment block, against her contract with Tabby so the building takes revenge? Are Trap & Bubbles the total of Razz's friends?
7482662
Eh. Making it adversarial, unless Spring is humbled somehow is probably NOT a solution. She would just dig her heels in mentally and in the conflict and either proclaim it an injustice on the other side or seek vengeance.
I guess her being helpless or victimised would change MY perspective though. It fulfills my conditions here, at least.
Well that's neat. Making your enemies your friends... Where have we heard that before?
A change of apparel does alter your state of mind!
Keep going! ;)
now this is a new development Bubbles with a real job. this has to be a typo of some kind.

I've been growing more and more curious about this, so I'll just ask.
Why the desire to see someone or something take revenge on Spring?
I know that you're familiar with most if not all of the Silververse, so can you think of a single time when seeking vengeance has ended in anything but tears and/or an escalating cycle of violence?
Spring has done something extraordinarily hurtful, but all evidence so far indicates it was out of ignorance instead of malice. The Silververse is all about learning from mistakes and second chances, and Tabitha appears to be following that path.
Is the anger and desire for revenge on Spring an expression of the hurt and sympathy you feel for Tabitha, perhaps? If that is the case, I can understand, and hope you feel better even if there is no quid pro quo justice meted out to Spring.
7483462
There was this one time in one of the spin-off stories it led to a pie storm... or so I heard.
7483978 sure, but that clearly wasn't a canon story.
It was a trebuchet.
7483462
When has anyone who acted in a manner like Spring, who takes actions which harm others out of a sense of being superior to them, of knowing what's best, and not caring about others ever stopped without actually having anything happen to them to cause them to question their superiority and sometimes actually failing in the Silververse?
I can't think of anyone.
But... to be honest,as to why: David hit it right on the head. I find Spring "perfectly annoying." I sympathize with Tabitha, sure, and Spring doing what she did was crossing the line, but if she weren't so darn smug about it I would hate her much less.
Edit: upon reconsidering, I was annoyed by her beforehand but it wasn't sorta this white hot annoyance (if that's a thing) until the centaur thing happened...
7484173
I agree, and I can't think of anyone either.
People will often continue to behave in the manner that suits them best until given a reason to change their behavior. Where we differ, and where I would urge you to reconsider, is that the 'anything' that happens to cause someone to stop and examine themselves in a new light need not be a tit-for-tat comeuppance dealt out by others or by some cosmic sort of justice.
It's natural to be frustrated or angry with someone that does not think as you do, especially when they cause harm to others that did nothing to deserve it. But when that frustration and anger turns to hatred and one begins to think of the other person not as a person but as some sort of threat to be resisted, opportunities to teach and learn in kind are lost.
I make no bones that Spring has acted in a way that to any reasonable person seems callous, even smugly arrogant, and we have yet to learn if that is entirely by nature or partially by nurture. It is also clear that she is not (and I am not asserting that you believe she is) a monster with evil in her heart and malice aforethought. Spring clearly does not understand or empathize with the (non-elven) people around her, and she has harmed Tabitha as a result of her ignorance.
Tabitha, despite her fear and anger at what has been done to her, has not given in to those feelings. She has acted thoughtfully and immediately removed one of the major dangers that Spring poses simply by setting out the rules clearly and unambiguously. She will no doubt continue to attempt to learn more about why Spring is as she is and, in the process, she may teach Spring, if not what it feels like to not be an elf, then to understand those that do not share her unique point of view.
It's not as viscerally satisfying as a cosmic bitch-slap, but it's ultimately worth the effort for a better outcome that will endure. Friendship, as is often repeated in this place, is magic.
7482643 What are your thoughts on my statement below?
7483462 I'll rephrase my statement cause it was incorrect in application. The building, assuming Dave is giving it a magical, almost personality of it's own, is metering out punishment for contract breakage, not vengeance, my mistake if this is how it goes...hypothetically. Spring already deserves a punishment for the perverse action of not just turning Tabby into a centaur without her consent, but making a hermaphrodite of her, not an action that is morally acceptable in any world.
7482662 Do you mean this one? Possible, she just has to break the rules to start. So far, she's followed all the rules. Her own rules, sure, shared by her people, which apparently find what she did to Tabitha acceptable, but...
7484366 Sorry the below I meant was in the same comment. When in another country here you abide by their rules, don't know how that stands foe Equestria though?

The problem with dealing with spring is that spring has already proven and even listed a resume to describe how dangerous she is despite her otherwise calm appearance.
Spring is functionally a genuine Mary Sue, but as an NPC. All the mary sue behaviorism traits are there: too powerful to care about being challenged, too pretty to feel insecure, too disconnected from reality to apply logic, too emotionally immature to value the worth of actions and their consequences, too self-centered to realize how a single slap of irritation would turn a mortal face into plaster paste, too insane too consider that a bad thing beyond how it affects her directly.
She's a villain, and you should hate her, but Wanting Tabitha to attack her is as stupid as Tabitha attacking a reality warping powered self-insert red and black Alicorn OC.
Give Tabitha time to figure out how to get the upper hand.
Prime example: the second floor monster is willing to pay the monthly dues but spring already said she did not want to use the Mortal currency so how will she pay off the contractual monthly fees of owning an apartment? Hint hint! The boon only paid for guaranteeing her apartment key, and maybe her first month's rent if you are generous.
So what happens to an otherworldly tenant when they unwittingly fail to fulfill their half of the magical trans-dimensional apartment's contracts which already shown to have a real power of their own?
7485046 Yeah but with each other, I ain't touching that!!
Not a terrible way to deal with an antagonistic person. I shall keep reading, though I REALLY hope that damned elf gets what she deserves in all the worst ways.
