Six years ago Equestria's first manned mission to the lunar surface, Excelsior 7, ended in abject tragedy. Six years later a pair of young astronauts have been sent to provide closure.

Whistling Wren is captain of the Hemera, a modest trading vessel operating in the Celestial Sea. With trade having reopened with the Griffon kingdom, there is high demand for brash young captains like her to brave the seas in search of fortune.

However the weather of the Celestial Sea remains outside the control of Equestrians. All it takes is a few rash decisions to leave Wren and her crew struggling for survival as winter closes in around them.

Starry Night is a newly minted astronaut of Equestria's century-old space program. Assigned to a routine refueling run as her first mission, she isn't expecting much in the way of excitement. But decades of spaceflight haven't made space itself any less dangerous, and she'll soon find her skills put to the test millions of miles out from Equestria's safe shores.
