It was more of a head canon anyways. It was supposed to explain the beginning of the Elements of Harmony as well as Equestria having more than just ponies.
I wouldn't say it's the worst story I have ever read. But one of the main rules of writing is "Write what you know". And if you don't know the military, it probably isn't the best idea to write a war fic. Not that it can't be done, but it would be much harder to accurately portray the military/military life style.
And downvoting a fic without giving a reason is more counterintuitive than an antidepressant that makes people think there's money inside of their wrists.
