I call next Crossover!
A war between freedom and fate. hmmmm....
Ahh, the wibbly wobbly state of time in the Displaced universes.
Usually, you could hand wave that by noting how ol' Gilgy hasn't actually gotten any news on the 'war' for some time. The few 'verses he's been to recently have been newer and unaware of the bigger scope of things.
In fact, it'd be stranger if he -did- know what was going on, I think. Overall, still excellent.
I was thining something was strange because I'm not sure but I was thinking Gilgamesh meet Umbra Shadow and he was a Sys Admin.
So apparently Gilgamesh is supposed to represent freedom. Yet he gives Geo an ultimatum that basically translates to:
"Convert to my way of thinking or die"
Come on man, only a Sith Lord deals in ultimatums.
6916601 He cam across this problem before with Kat. He believed in allowing everyone to do what they wished and it ended in her crippling Celestia and Luna. He's now of the opinion "you're free to do whatever you want... but so am I."
Ah, yet another chapter from one of the most epic Displaced fics out there. I love myself a good multiverse fic. In fact, you should try reading this one, for a sh@# ton of laughs. Trust me it's a good one. Oh, and it's not mine, just thought you'd like to read it.
Alas, I loved the first series more then I like this one. While good, this one is lacking the fun, Pinkie-esque chaos of the first.
6916615 I pretty much mentioned at the end of the last series and the beginning of this one that this is where shit hits the fan and the clowns begin to be shooed out. I call it the "shonen formula": have a bunch of wacky hijinks to get to know the characters so that when the bad stuff hits the reader cares enough to actually stick with the characters.
There will be lighthearted moments, I promise you, but this is first and foremost a war story, with all the horrors of it front and center.
6916609 I guess that's a reasonable philosophy for an envoy of freedom. Though that line of thinking could be troublesome, seeing as how he is vastly more powerful than everyone around him (with the possible exception of Discord, because the Spirit of Chaos could probably turn Gilgamesh's brain into vanilla pudding) and could impose his will on entire nations or even universes while calling it his "freedom". (not saying Gilgamesh would ever do that, it was just an extreme example)
Anyway, awesome story. I can't wait to see what happens next!
Nice chapter, good work.

Oh sweet merciful bundt cakes YES!!! The ham so hammy he makes porky pig look vegan....wait...serious chapter....oh well, still an awesome read. and November 2014? Wow, and here I was berating myself for not posting a chapter I've worked on in a month. Welp, good ta see ya back Gilgamesh. And for reintroducing that you are back? might I suggest a classic?
Another excellent chapter, as usual.:D
6916609
6916683
And with that said, I find it quite disturbing when someone has the temerity to be indignant when they are reproached, or see someone being reproached about their previous actions and/or wrongdoings.
In short: Well done, Gilgamesh.
6917103 so, if I'm understanding that correctly, it's saying you cannot really claim to support freedom unless you are willing accept the consequences of your actions?
6917162
Precisely. Anything else is, in fact, tyranny, self imposed or otherwise, because if you cannot or otherwise attempt to refuse to reap the bad of your actions, then there is no reasonable claim you can make for the good.
Glad to see you back, good Sir! Excellent chapter as always, can't wait for the next one.
And also, I'm keeping a sharp eye for when you finally start on Asura's Wrath.
Now we move onto our own paths… for the foreseeable 'future'. If this strange thing we call a timeline can be called that.
Y'know, now that I think of it, the fact that different authors post different stuff from varying points in their characters' timelines on their own schedule actually sort of completes the whole thing. It makes the Displaced series seem… more real? I dunno. But it feels like you're stuck in a big ball of timey wimey wibbly wobbly stuff. And that completes it.
You know, after having watched (and thoroughly enjoyed) One Punch Man, I wonder how Gilgamesh stacks up to Saitama physically. Sure, Gilgamesh has magic, but I doubt it would do much. But both are capable of laying serious smack down on beings with the power of gods, and we have yet to see anything close to either's maximum limits.
...and now I want a crossover.
6917490 The only way I can see Gilgamesh beating Saitama is if he stopped time then used Zatetsuken, the blade that can cut anything, to shank him while he's defenseless. And that may not even work.
6917103 As a strong believer in personal freedom, I agree with your interpretation of what that entails. However, not everyone has the same set of values, which makes me question if it is really ok to decide what true freedom is using your own set of morals. After all, morality is artificially construed. Despite that, I still have morals even though I know how arbitrary they are. But that's not my point. What I am asking is: Is it really valid to give someone a life or death ultimatum based on what you personally believe to be right and just, and then call it freedom?
6917544
Saitama CAN get damaged, he is just very durable, plus,
HE
NEEDS
TO
BREATHE
!
he held his breath on the moon....
find a way to suffocate him, and he will die...
gosh, has nobody read Worm?
if someone seems invincible, stuff bugs down their through until they die...
just don't do it to an ally by accident...people tend to take that the wrong way
6918071
The problem though is that Saitama is basically the manifestation of all human limits broken to the extreme.
Can't Fly. Jumps across the entire world.
Can't breathe in Space. Holds his breath for really really long amounts of time.
Can't Teleport. Moves way faster than the eye can see (possibly even FTL).
Hell, we don't even know how powerful his punches even are at 100%.
You know what I mean (even if it is a little exaggerated).
6917544
Cuts through anything known in the Final Fantasy universe.
6916279 That is a ridiculously long wait list, and for fairly obvious reasons. These chapters are almost two years old. I believe the next crossover for Gilgamesh is some time part way through the war after the mane 6 get combat training.
6917569
The premise of your question is flawed, morality, as a construct, is not man-made, and is, in fact, a higher law than himself.
However, if one chooses to believe that morality is a social-construct (i.e. wholly artificial), then yes, there can be no outright moral-validity between giving someone an ultimatum between life and death but merely the whims of who is currently the most powerful in a given time or situation.
6918318 I fail to see how an idea created by humans is some sort of higher law or universal truth, but that is not a debate I really want to get into.
What you said about the whims of the most powerful, that is the root of my problem with Gilgamesh's actions in these last two chapters. For all he talks about free will, instead of teaching Geo why he might be wrong or try to give him a different perspective, Gilgamesh just uses his superior physical strength to strong arm Geo into doing what he wants with the threat of murder. Will Geo really be sincere about changing his ways knowing that if he chooses not to Gilgamesh will come murder him?
6918510
I recognize your choice to believe in moral-equivalency, and fully admit that this particular philosophy is a rabbit-hole I do not wish to travel. I can therefore not give you a satisfactory answer. My apologies.
Yay XD
6918548 It's cool. I really enjoyed the intellectual discussion with you. It's not often you find something like that on the internet.
6918560
The debate you two are having heavily reminds me of the plot of MGR: REVENGEANCE. It has been long enough that I do not think spoilers will hurt, but the philosophy of the main villain amounts to "might makes right", while Raiden insists on being a "sword of justice". Except the only way for him to get it through to him is to beat the crap out of him, and impose is philosophy. I find it similar to what Gilgy is doing here. Some characters will not yield unless you whack them over the head with a clue-by-four.
6918178
The whole debate on the limits of Saitama is amusing. His strength is, at least to me, literally defined as "Stronger than you", much like Gamagori from Kill-la-kill has a defined size of "bigger than you". Therefore any attempts to quantify his fighting prowess is null and void. Though that does make me wonder. What if a pathetic or comic-relief villain tried to take him on onscreen, without resorting to off-screen beat-up that usually occurs for their type.
Re: crossovers
Sorely tempted to try my hand at writing my own story, but not confident enough to try publishing. That, and my spare time is usually taken up browsing forums or playing vidya. Oh woe is me. XD
6918714 I will admit I have not read Geo's story. Perhaps he is just a stubborn Senator Armstrong type and any form of diplomacy beyond "I am stronger than you" would just not get through to him.
So...whens the jason crossover?
6920549 either at the end of the next chapter, or the chapter afterwards.
6919482 I tried reading through it, and his utterly cruel, assholish behavior got tiring pretty fast.
More interdimensional friendships?:3
6918560 6918548 What's this? A discussion of ethics in freedom on the internet... that didn't devolve into a flame war!?
So yeah, if I may, I'd like to contribute a little something to this discussion... and also take this opportunity to introduce everyone I possibly can to 3 Minute Philosophy. One is a theory on ethics, the other on freedom.
So as you can plainly see, you've stumbled upon some discussions that have been happening for a few hundred years. In a way it's kind of cool to see they're still relevant.
6917227 I may need some help with that one actually. I've got some ideas in mind, but I can't think of how to arrange the overarching story.
6921173 You'll have to wait and see, but before Gilgy and Geo start becoming actual "friends" he'll need a serious attitude adjustment.
6917281 It is a nice feeling, isn't it? I look forwards to doing it again with you.
6944075 I know what you mean. I've had gator, too.
I don't know why but the System Admin thing made me all twitchy. I blame close proximity to Jsyrin for a long period of time.
6951670 Twitchy?
6951830 Almost like PTSD, but not quite there.
6954054 Well, don't worry. There won't be many references to that here.
6954114 I trust you and your great profile picture.
6960442 I've actually been looking for that gif.
6916601
I don't see the problem

6960663
You're welcome for the gif.
Really nice story . Started to read recently and one of the best stories I have seen so far. Can't wait to see more of the mighty Gilgamesh especialy after that end :
Also it would be nice from my point of view to use some songs more "metal" for the fighting scenes like the MC wanted to with "Ready to die", I can easily imagine Gilgamesh covered in blood while singing :
WE MADE A SACRIFICE AND NOW WE GET TO TAKE YOUR LIFE !
6968813 Shit is going to hit the fan in this sequel.
Freaking love this fic. Looking forward to what chaos he causes on return.
Makes me wanna write, but the brain hits headlong with the problem of just . . no plot.No ideas, nada. Enh.
holy shit did not know there was a sequel to this!
WOOHOOOO!!!
