Freedom Planet 2 just got certified for console release, with a release date of April 4th,and a rating of Teen.

Let me set the scene.

Freedom Planet 1 opens with a beheading and has an electrocution torture scene halfway through. Somehow, it gets away with an E10 rating.

Freedom Planet 2 gets that T rating because of...

With my quest/race to get a Rainbow S on all of Freedom Planet 2's stages, my creativity lit up like a bonfire again, and I started crafting an alternate ending of sorts for the past week.

Pointers for those unfamiliar with Freedom Planet 2:
- The player-character Lilac has a boost ability. She is invulnerable for the duration of the boost. You can cancel the boost early for damage-over-time at the point of cancellation, but you are immediately vulnerable to follow-up attacks.

Well, to anyone paying any attention to my blogs for the past month, I've been spending quite a bit of time playing Freedom Planets 1 and 2, which are inspired by East Asian mythology.

One Philippine dish that featured in the extended backstory of the second game was siopao (pronounced sho-pow), otherwise known as steamed pork buns.

And after weeks of looking for a nearby restaurant that made authentic ones, I finally got to try some downtown today!

It also gave me a very, very good idea of what stages I will never, ever get a Rainbow S in.

Rainbow S score thresholds require the use of difficulty modifiers that force you to come in under Par Time, and never take health damage.

That I would never achieve a Rainbow S ranking on every level of Freedom Planet 2.

Now only the most frantic, fast-paced, six-phase boss fight in the game is all I have left to do nearly perfectly.

In the Writeoff chat, Cold in Gardez likes to say that story quality is inversely proportional to the number of genre tags. In general I agree, it's better to stay focused. Even if the quality doesn't suffer, the story becomes more specialized. Each genre becomes another barrier that turns some potential readers off.

Also, apologies to Phazon, whom I ensured would be able to read this before playing Freedom Planet 2, I ultimately decided to put some of FP2's events into the epilogue. But that's more to read once you play it!

Now here's to a third story, while yes, continuing to work on my pony stuff as well!

I really don't want this to sound like I'm dumping Pony for my side chick Lilac... But that's what I'm doing for the next several days.

This kind of inspiration demands that I keep striking while this iron is hot.
