My first time writing in a new IP in 12 years. · 4:17am Oct 3rd, 2023

Warning: Mostly non-MLP related.

I've been writing fanfiction for most of my life, and posting it online for 16 years, starting with Digimon in 2007, Sonic in 2010, and then of course, where the vast, vast majority of my work is, My Little Pony in 2011. Now, indie developer GalaxyTrails' 2D platformer Freedom Planet has captured enough of my imagination where I've started a rather short story after the epilogue of the second game.

I'm not entirely sure why I'm posting this here, because the one follower that I'm pretty certain would be interested in this is waiting for the Switch port, which is currently due out in December.

Perhaps for a sense of scale of just how tiny an island I now find myself on.

The archives of fanfiction.net have 42,000 Digimon stories, 32,400 Sonic stories, and 22,800 My Little Pony stories.

Freedom Planet? 143 stories.

But if you've played both Freedom Planet 1 and 2, and have gotten the True Ending of the second game, then here you go:

Our Best Selves: A Freedom Planet 2 Story - Chapter 1 (Deviantart.com)
Our Best Selves: A Freedom Planet 2 Story - Chapter 1 (Fanfiction.net)

As always, thanks for reading.

If it makes you feel any better, I've been toying with writing a Them's Fightin' Herds fanfic at some point, and at this specific moment, its own story count on fanfiction.net sits at… three. Two of which were by the same author. (Granted, it fares a bit better both here and on AO3, but only just, and still.)

Compendium sizes aside, I did buy the first installment of Freedom Planet a while back, even if I still need to… well, actually install it. Definitely bookmarking this in the meantime! :)

I highly recommend both games.

42,000 Digimon stories, 32,400 Sonic stories, and 22,800 MLP stories.

Wait..

NANI?!

There's more Digimon stories on fanfiction.net than Sonic and MLP?!

I suppose it makes sense when you consider when fanfiction.net was at its height of popularity. The Digimon was pretty fresh in the minds of fans and Sega as a company was falling apart. If you look on AO3 then Sonic beats out Digimon by a pretty respectable amount.

I know how you feel, I occasionally write in my own little sci-fi universe. I've had it in development for probably 20 years. Every so often I develop a new aspect of the setting. It's nice to explore writing in different settings from time to time. It gets the creative juices flowing.

You're making me think I should make an account on AO3.

I used to use fanfiction.net loads but a few of their policy choices made me stop using the site. The mature stories purge, the rampant ads, and the complete lack of quality of life updates to keep the site running smoothly. It's pretty sad as in the early 2000s it felt like such an awesome place to be. AO3 definitely feels like the better option these days.

Just registered for an invite.

Yeah, it's just surprising since I as a Pokèmon fan don't know much about it. (Also the fact that the only Digimon game I've ever played was that stupid MMORPG probably doesn't help)
