S7E1 Celestial Advice [SPOILERS] · 2:31pm Apr 16th, 2017

So, its begun, a new season, so lets review, starting with a rating...

ΩΩΩ out of 6

Yah, that's a rather low rating, and its not that its a bad episode, but its just an episode. Really, just look back at the season openers we've had, from starting the show to last season, and they were all (mostly?) true two parters, and powerful episodes.

S5E23: The Hooffields and McColts · 9:39pm Nov 14th, 2015

This episode was written by the same team who did "Rarity Investigates", so I had high hopes. It wasn't quite up to those standards, but it was still better than last week's instalment. Some of that was due to the cold open, which had Fluttershy in Maximum Adorableness Mode -- which, as everyone knows, I'm a sucker for. She didn't do much in the episode proper until near the end, though. Twilight was interesting: she seems increasingly confident about her royal status these days; I wonder

I’ve figured out why I don’t like Human/Anthro/Equestria Girls · 1:50am Apr 7th, 2021

I think it’s because I find it uncomfortable watching violence(even cartoon violence) done against humans. I dunno, I guess I’m just that squeamish.

That or I hate people. Which ever works.

S5E20: Hearthbreakers · 8:33pm Oct 24th, 2015

A "Christmas" episode in October? Okay then. It was a rather strange episode, and occasionally a bit disjointed, but reasonably heart(hs)warming. Actually, it had similarities to "Hearth's Warming Eve" itself from back in S2. A few interesting bits of worldbuilding and new characters, but not an episode you need to concentrate too intensely on. It might turn out to be ideal for Boxing Day, actually. ★★★

A few more thoughts, with spoilers, past the break.

Not bad, and made a solid farewell episode for AKR. One of the songs (the penultimate one that was previewed months back) was outstanding, the others were okay. Wasn't nearly as much of a fan of the modern-style one as many people seem to be. Having "Rara" not referring to Rarity is going to confuse me now every time I read a certain type of fanfic. Story felt like it was trying to fit too much into 22 minutes minus whatever the songs took up. Svengallop was one of the dullest "villains"

A Fluttershy episode that, for the most part, didn't do anything new. In fact, it was heading straight for a two-star rating until near the end, despite Applejack and Big Mac. (I was not a fan of Granny Smith in this: never mind Angel, she was worse.) The final few minutes were very nice, with a moral that I approve of. And of course it's a Fluttershy episode, and she gets extra points just for being Fluttershy. So it should have been an easy three. However, the really scared one now is

Not bad, I guess. Rarity episodes are rarely terrible, and this one wasn't, but nor was it one of her greatest hits. "Suited for Success" and "Rarity Takes Manehattan" were both a class above Amy Keating Rogers' latest effort. ★★★

Fascinating season finale, and one that very sensibly didn't try to outdo S4's finale but went in a different direction. Masses going on, but it mostly managed to keep the pacing right. The exception was the ending, which really did feel rushed. One line in particular (from Spike) will have caught the attention of many fanfic readers in particular, and was a hay of a coincidence given the setting, hmm Mr Haber? :raritywink: Astonishing new scope for fanfics from this one, too!

S6E15: "28 Pranks Later" · 11:08pm Aug 13th, 2016

Thanks to GBR annoyingly choosing an episode day to do very well at the Olympics, this will be short. Another miss for me, I'm afraid. A potentially fabulous premise executed rather disappointingly, and with characterisation that simply didn't feel right for Season Six. Several very funny moments, but in terms of entertainment the episode as a whole was about on a par with last week's. ★★

S6E21: "Every Little Thing She Does" · 6:06pm Sep 24th, 2016

The season is really on a good streak now. This was by far my favourite post-reformation Starlight Glimmer story. By far. There was one innovation I really disliked, but for the most part it was a fine way for Michael Vogel and Sabrina Alberghetti (Sibsy) to bow out of Pony. ★★★★

A few extra comments, with spoilers, past the break.

S6E19: "The Fault in Our Cutie Marks" · 10:41pm Sep 10th, 2016

Not bad, not bad. Not the greatest CMC episode in history, but it was fun and amusing for the most part. The guest character is going to divide fans, I suspect, but I'm mostly pro. One particular disappointment, however. Another episode not to pick apart too much, but just to sit and enjoy, I feel. Not quite up to "Buckball Season", but generally solid. ★★★

More, with spoilers, past the break.

I'm a bit surprised by how much criticism this one is getting; I enjoyed it. I wouldn't say it was quite up in classic territory, but it held its own with most of the rest of S6 so far. I do think it lost its way a bit in the second half (during the first half it was on course for an easy four-star rating), but on the whole a pretty solid debut by new writer Dave Rapp. ★★★/★★★★ (I really can't decide)

A little more (with spoilers) after the break...

S6E04: On Your Marks · 11:40am Apr 11th, 2016

Very quick, non-spoilery review now, as I haven't had much time this weekend. Three stars again, but in the upper reaches of that band. I liked the concept, which explored some interesting territory, as well as the song. Pacing was a bit off, and one of the early secondary characters is someone I just don't much like. May come to be seen in the future as a jumping-off point for other things. Surprisingly short on funny quotes for a Dave Polsky episode, but some nice visual gags. So far, this

S6E09: "The Saddle Row Review" · 8:36pm May 21st, 2016

(That's what the episode was called on-screen. Not "Saddle Row & Rec", despite what some sources suggested beforehand!) And I'm... not sure what to make of it, really. A provisional three-star review, but it could easily end up anywhere between two and four by the time my blog review goes up on Monday. Edit: I was obviously in a bad mood when I watched it first. I laughed more second time around and, though it's still not perfect, it can have the fourth star now. ★★★★

Thoughts · 8:06pm Jul 25th, 2017

I've been thinking about how I want to draw out my stories a bit more.

While I have a few points where the show and my stories crashes together and a whole lot when it doesn't happen. The show itself is more like a little guideline for me to see when what happens.

Main problem: I just can't put everything "on-hold" until season 8 is over.
Main question: When do you differ from your story to the show?
