S5E23: The Hooffields and McColts · 9:39pm Nov 14th, 2015
This episode was written by the same team who did "Rarity Investigates", so I had high hopes. It wasn't quite up to those standards, but it was still better than last week's instalment. Some of that was due to the cold open, which had Fluttershy in Maximum Adorableness Mode -- which, as everyone knows, I'm a sucker for. She didn't do much in the episode proper until near the end, though. Twilight was interesting: she seems increasingly confident about her royal status these days; I wonder whether that will eventually get her into trouble? As for the titular hillbillies, they were... well, as expected, really. A two-star/three-star boundary episode, but that first scene nudges it into the higher category. ★★★
Fluttershy spent this whole episode being 110% adorable. Twilight vacillated between adorable and jerkface. A second watch has endeared it to me more overall, but it's still middling, at least for this season.
