S7E1 Celestial Advice [SPOILERS] · 2:31pm Apr 16th, 2017
So, its begun, a new season, so lets review, starting with a rating...

Yah, that's a rather low rating, and its not that its a bad episode, but its just an episode. Really, just look back at the season openers we've had, from starting the show to last season, and they were all (mostly?) true two parters, and powerful episodes.
Note that I didn't say important, because this is an important episode, its just not all that exciting. Lets see, the heroes of last season's finale receive an award and Starlight graduates (an announcement caused by Discord's prodding). All important to the characters, but compared to the escape of Discord for example, rather unexciting. Especially with the hype they built up, suggesting some great time travel or something to happen to Starlight and Sunburst.
Oh, and about that reward, a winged heart? Ummm, yah, I could see that if it was a reward from the Crystal Empire, since love is their thing, but Equestria? Plus it looks like Celestia just swung by Kay Jewelers on the way to Ponyville. Oh the missed opportunities, either something like...
Or ifn they wanted to throw the fans and interesting thing, perhaps a shield with a moon on it? The fandom has enjoyed Luna as the impetuous princess, the one most apt to take up sword and shield to defend the nation unlike her sister who prefers to work through agents like the Elements of Harmony, so that would've been a nice little acknowledgement of the fans.
So, over all, not a bad episode, but just an episode, and a let down compared to the previous openers.
