A New Generation of ponies (possible mild spoilers)

So, the time has come, G5/A New Generation the movie has dropped. Not bad, though I do agree with Dr Wolf that it seemed rushed at times, likely as he said a side effect of it being under two hours. Before I'd seen it, based on rumors and clips leaked on YouTube I would've described as 'a group of ponies go searching for the magical MacGuffin only to find out what's really important'. Seriously, if'n you were a fan of G4, there's no real surprise there, it's the details that matter.

Hitch was better than I expected. Seriously, the single stallion, the charismatic sheriff and certified good guy? Yeah, he could've been real annoying with mansplaining and generally being perfect, but the writers didn't go there thankfully. Instead he was generally likeable (that's going to be a lot of paperwork), and had his funny moments, especially the running gag with animals loving him.
Zipp, not much to say, she's fun and prolly my favorite, I'm just thankfully she was a re-coloured Rainbow Dash.
Sunny is fun, upbeat and just all around great
Izzy is just plain fun, closest thing we get to Pinkie Pie, but no where near as manic. Fun to see her non-magical talents, here home is awesome
Pipp was the one I seriously loved. Princess and social media star? Oh how very wrong that could get, and her jail visit threatened that, but thankfully we were wrong. Forget the dance off scene which gets talked about with her, getting them out of Zephyr Heights was I think the biggest display of her character, and raises some questions I hope the show answers. I mean really, Zipp is the bad girl, Pipp is the good girl, and yet it's Pipp that knows how to sneak out of the city? Hmmm...

Beyond that, there are so many gags going on in the background, the Terminator riff is a favorite.
I'll be interested to see where we are, I have a funny feeling this isn't Equestria, but a colony or something. Clearly they, or at least Sunny knows about G4, but none of the locations are ones we know, there's no signs of any of Equestria we know nor the Crystal Empire, griffon lands, Yak-Yakestan, etc. Definitely something up.
I wonder if'n any of the Princesses will show up in the future. While they may or may not be immortal (I think the fandom's timeless Alicorns is a brilliant idea), I would think there would be some evidence out there.
Speaking of those two last points, I have a funny feeling that the technology they have has some connection to EQG, they are much more advanced than G4 after all, and that technology had to come from somewhere. It's not like you could just suddenly bring cell phones, cars and such through the mirror and have them be useful, it would've taken quite a long time for ponies to advance to the level we see in the movie, but they had to start somewhere, no?

Oveall, the movie is a blast, go see it. I won't tell you to pirate it, nor where to find it, but of course it is an option if'n you don't have access to Netflix. I wish it was available in theatres here in the US, I would've gone in a heartbeat, that or NetFlix allowed you to watch it for free or a small fee as a gateway drug to signing up, but what can you do?
