But at around 8:40 in this video, I finally understood why I don't write it "Big McIntosh".
And now I don't know what to do with this information.

I always just did it because they always shortened it to "Mac."

you wouldn't call him "Big Mc", of course, that would just be silly :V

"Big Mc" sounds like an Irish gangster.
Big MC sounds like a local 90s “hip hop artist” with too little imagination.

Big Mick doesn’t like what you’ve been doing with the potatoes, friend.
I don't terribly mind it when people spell it "Macintosh," but I insist that it's "McIntosh" in my stories and am pretty adamant with people who "correct" me.
And the argument that "Macintosh" is better because we call him "Big Mac" doesn't hold up, because nicknames don't care about spelling. It's why it's "Mike" not "Mic." And "Nick," not "Nich." And hell, don't even get me started on "Dick."

But okay, all silliness aside, yeah, I think most people assume that it's spelled like the damn computer and don't know how to spell the actual fruit's name. You're in good company.

*raises hand* Part of the problem for me (British) is that the McIntosh variety of apple is not well known here in the UK -- indeed, I believe it's never been grown on a commercial scale here.
