"The series premiere, but different" is a timeworn genre in most fandoms, and pony is no different. A good chunk of the authors here have put their own spin on Twilight arriving in Ponyville and that first journey into the Everfree, including me. But this one is special.
This doesn't just plot a different route through the stations of canon. It fleshes out the political, social, magical, and other details of the world in an organic way as it does, going into detail and drawing from all throughout G4's timeline in a way the series never could. I am a tremendous sucker for good world-building, and this has it in spades, along with a deeply engrossing take on Nightmare Moon. And just about everyone else, for that matter. Best Pony's on the Ponyville town council!
So yeah, I heartily recommend this and its sequels. Fantastic stuff throughout.
It took me a moment to parce the "and" in the blog title. I tend to forget about the double slash in the Gatherer files.
