    Author update!

I'm editing stuff! But also incredibly dried out of writing power atm. I'll get going again soon, but just bear with me for a bit. I'm publishing a chapter of XCOM today, then start on the daily writing (not publishing) again tomorrow morning. In the meantime, always remember:

    Remembering Koji Wada

Like every year, I like to remember the man/legend responsible for the theme songs of one of my favorite shows of all time on the anniversary of his death.

So if you were wondering about the timing for the latest Isekai chapters? There you go.

    Welp, here's a life update

These last couple of weeks have been a bit of a rollercoaster. Good things have happened, and also bad ones. No wonder I could relate to both Furina and Navia in the latest Isekai chapter. Sometimes pretending things are fine is really exhausting, even if they do get better.

Update to the Isekai coming tonight! And some additional details and change of plans.

First, to everyone waiting patiently for the next Isekai chapter, I apologize for the delay. I know there are a lot of people that want to see another visit to Hell happen soon, and it will, I promise. However, due to some circumstances, I decided for a different pair of visitors to visit the bar this week.

Funnily enough me and my friend were just talking about Final Fantasy in PMs

Ah FF Vlll, not as hated as 13 but still too many think its a bad one...I for one enjoy it for the most part...and the music is so goood. (also this person is great)

5580486 Mostly people hated it because it was not FFVII, but it was a great game anyway, whether they want to admit it or not.

I perfer the original final fantasy games. None of the anime stuff, plain old dnd style adventures

Funny enough, I was just on a discord for Final Fantasy 14

I was just watching an FF6 medley this morning actually, here

It's every song in the game

Yeah, it was right after Final Fantasy VII, and while it was following what VII did, it wasn't as good as VII, it wasn't more VII, and while it experimented, some of that didn't really work out that great.(Not a big fan of enemies leveling up with you...)

Then IX comes around, and is a retiring of the old guard, the last gasp of pre-VII's direction, and was wonderful in itself. (And had Vivi in it.). And X did some new things and was pretty good in itself, despite an irritating protagonist.

It was a good game, though, and if it had been right after VI, with VII as the next game, it probably would be regarded better. It is one I enjoy, otherwise I wouldn't own three copies of it...

(Of course, I have kinda a soft spot for X-2 as well, which everyone seems to hate...)

Ah, hey. First Final Fantasy game I ever played, as I recall. Didn't end up being my favorite of the FF games I've played (that'd be IX), but, uh... to be honest, when I got a copy of VII years(?) later, I didn't really see the hype, and at least from memory at the moment, with playing either so far in the past, I still don't see VII as particularly better than VIII. (And that's with having badly misunderstood VIII's levelling system as a kid.) I suspect maybe it's just something one had to be there at the time for.

...Though it may also be that I found, as I recall, a lot of the plot of VII really confusing, which kind of hampered my enjoyment of it. I much more recently read a (sadly, as I was enjoying it, probably dead) fanfic that helped quite a bit in explaining things, but my memory of my experience with the game itself still has that strong tint of "...What's going on?".

Though as most people don't seem to have had that, whereas I in turn don't recall ever having much trouble fairly easily getting an understanding, if maybe not necessarily the correct one, of time compression in VIII... yeah, I don't know, things just kind of seem to be have processing differently there. Or I'm misremembering, and was confused by both at the time, maybe... Eh. [shrugs]

I got my start with Final Fantasy IV back when it was on the SNES and still referred to as Final Fantasy II. I remember the moment distinctly; I had come into a local rental store hoping to get my hands on Zelda: A Link to the Past, which I could never beat because I'd have to return the rental and when I could afford to rent it again someone had gone in and wiped my save file. It was immensely frustrating (I didn't actually beat ALttP until some twenty years later when I bought it on a whim for an excessive amount of money just for that reason). That day in particular, I went into the rental store only to find all copies of the Zelda game had been rented. So... had to get something else. Oh, Final Fantasy II? What's that? *checks back of box* Hey, this kinda looks like Zelda...

The rest is history. I played every Final Fantasy that came out and was a die-hard fan, up until I got disenchanted by XII's focus on sidequests over story and XIII's disastrous move in the opposite direction. I never played XI or XIV though, mostly because of my determined avoidance of any and all things MMORPG. I recall being pretty bummed when they announced those two. I'm also a big fan of the original Final Fantasy Tactics, although I never played any of its sequels. I'm currently playing Final Fantasy XV, which seems to share XII's endless sidequest problem, but at least it's a lot more fun to play than that one was. Also just started playing World of Final Fantasy, which is proving far more entertaining than I expected.

While I stand firm in my belief that Final Fantasy VI was the best game in the franchise... Final Fantasy VIII was my favorite to play. I loved everything about VIII. I still love everything about VIII. I acknowledge the Draw system was a little grindy, and yeah, the characters are all a bunch of whiny, angsty teens, but the game just resonated with me. I remain convinced it has the single best ending of all the games, and Ultimecia was a ton of fun as a final boss.

I really enjoyed X-2, although I think that might be at least partially my favoring of job-changing systems. Plus it had Paine, who was awesome and made the whole game a bajillion times better. When Yuna and Rikku were being too silly for me, Paine would save the day every time.

I recall the hype of FF VII as a kid. Heck, I joined in on it. It was truly a landmark title in a lot of ways, from its presentation to its music to its complicated story. My sister was such a Sephiroth fangirl.

But as an adult looking back, I realize that the plot and characters weren't as incredible as everytone thinks. The story was indeed convoluted and confusing. Cloud was boring (and never stopped being so, in my opinion, even today) and Tifa's design was pure fanservice, and what the heck was that ending? At this point I am of the opinion that the only thing that made the game such a hit was its technical advancements, which were indeed impressive for the time.

Frankly, I wish they'd given VI that kind of "overarching franchise" treatment. In fact, I think it's a crime that VII's the one getting all this attention when VI had the undeniably better story, characters, and villain.

For those who grew up with turn-based RPGs, ATB was a heck of a shock. You're sitting there going through menus formulating your genius plan, and then the enemy just goes "screw this, imma take my turn now" like a real person would and you're just sitting there going "wait that's illegal" for so long that he probably gets another turn before you wise up.

5580631
It didn't bother me too much; just a new system to try out. I think I was just young enough to still be in that adaptive stage where trying out new things was exciting and fun rather than a frustration and crime against nature.

That is certainly a beautiful version to listen to, though I do want to share the version I like the most.

This is nice. Thanks.

Never played any FF games (always been a PC gamer), but I can't deny it has excellent music.

5580544
Ah, thanks for your perspective. And yeah, since I only got to VII after VIII, VII definitely wasn't wowing me with technical advancements.

VI, I'm afraid I haven't really played much at all of; I never had a copy as a kid, and though I did get a ROM later, well, I have so many other things to do.

5580631
Hah, yes, I think I quite possibly may have gotten that with VIII -- though I'm not actually sure, given I'm not sure how many turn-based RPGs I actually had played before FFVIII (Super Mario RPG, at least, I think, though).
...Mind you, I more distinctly recall having a "good" enough impression of turn-based RPGs to "realize" that if I was having so much trouble with the battles, I needed more level grinding. And somehow, I just kept having difficulty with them; it was almost like I wasn't actually getting much of a level advantage at all! Yeeeah.
...I think I may have beaten FFVIII once, years later. I do recall managing to get to the final boss, at least, though not necessarily their final stage. But I might also be remember seeing the ending on YouTube or something.
(Now, IX, that one I beat multiple times, as I recall.)

5580738
Yeah, same; as I mentioned above, I think I may have had little enough experience with RPGs that the ATB system was just an "Okay, I guess some games work like this" sort of thing. But it was quite some time ago, and my memory isn't clear on the matter.
