Turning gifs into videos both helps and "helps"!

• It helps users on mobile devices because they already have hardware video decoders, freeing CPU resources and potentially saving a bit of power
• It helps (mostly the hosting sites/CDNs, but the users too even if just by a teeeny tiny bit) by reducing the data transmitted (the flip-side is they need to have multiple copies in different formats negating -- and balooning -- storage requirements, but the math most likely checks out)
• It "helps" the hosting sites by making it that little bit harder/more annoying to hotlink the resulting video into another site; and those that "allow hotlinking" do so by loading up trackers/javascript files/all that "good" stuff onto the other site.
