[Cosmological] Back on Popular Stories?

I was very surprised to see this story back on the Popular Stories tab.

I published this story on the 28th, and by the 30th it received its 19th and final upthumb as of this writing. Today, 7 people viewed it as of this writing, up from 0 yesterday, which itself is a bit strange since usually stories get fewer new views per day as time goes on. The story was never very popular overall, with 98 views total.

It could very well be that the "jump" in readership today came from it being in the Popular Stories tab, but how did it get there in the first place, with no new upthumbs in literally a week?

EDIT: And it's gone, as of 33 minutes after I posted this. Guess it was a weird hiccup with the algorithm.

I was probably one of those readers. I've been in a philosophical mood lately, and remembered this story.
