I won't be deleting the account, because it's been pointed out to me before that some people somehow found something they liked in my stories and it's not really fair of me to take it away, but I'm done with Fimfiction. Thanks for having me. Bye.

In which I apologise for being a year behind schedule and note a remarkable coincidence

So, the five of you who are still following me will note it's been a while since I published a story, and even longer since I teased my big upcoming project - nearly a year since that blog, in fact! I'm so sorry.

    Unhelpful notes

Falling asleep last night, right on the cusp of sleeping, I suddenly had what I thought was a brilliant idea for a story. Grabbing a pen I sat up and wrote it down, so I wouldn't forget it in the morning.

My scribbled notes say "A place in every heart" and then underneath it just says "good idea for a story! CADANCE IS IMPORTANT have to use third person not first though, Important!"

Still here, still writing, stay tuned

On the one hand, I'd hoped to have finished a couple more stories by now. On the other hand, I'm still working on those stories, rather than this latest absence being another thing where I can't ever seen myself writing again, so... yeah! Stay tuned, stories 18 to 20 (Celestia/Luna crossover spectacular, and a Meadowbrook romance that's missed the deadlines for the contests it was meant for) are

I wrote a deeply stupid thing

For the Cadance is a Terrible Mom competition:

    ETarget Praxis
Cadance thinks it's important a Crystal Princess lives up to her heritage. Shining Armor isn't so sure.

Nailah pointed me towards this contest and I immediately thought about, well, this. Then I thought of the title and decided I had to do it.

December update · 1:21pm Dec 15th, 2020

So, I've been ill. Signed off work until the New Year. Yay.

(I had a negative COVID-19 test last month, but was then diagnosed with a nasty chest infection. I'll be back. Too many stories left to tell.)

More pressingly (well, not really, but, y'know, priorities, amirite?), Away seems to have had some kind of mini-bump in views and bookshelf adds while I've been, er, away. Only a handful, but noticeably more than usual. I can't tell from the stats whether it's been featured, mentioned or panned somewhere, and I haven't added it to any groups or done anything to promote it since the spring. Any ideas, anypony?

We now return you to your regularly scheduled scrolling. See you soon!

I dunno :B That's neat, though!

be well D:

be well D:

Thank you. I'm trying my best! :rainbowdetermined2:

Whatever it was (the Away thing, I mean), it seemingly happened 3 days ago, but I only ever seem to see notifications from the last 2 days, so I might have missed it being added to a shelf somewhere or something. (And for all I know, that shelf was called Terrible Stories anyway!) I have no idea what I'm doing.

The site works in mysterious ways. :B

One trouble with COVID-19 is that people seem to forget other diseases can still happen.

I've had mini-bumps for fics occasionally that seemed entirely random. Knowing how fluctuating probabilities and life in general work, they probably are. It's a little known fact that, in psychological experiments, people tend to see meaningful patterns in deliberately randomized phenomena (so, for instance, they're more likely to interpret random clusters of dots on a screen as significant when it's really no more significant than the rest of the dots on the screen).

Of course, it does help to rule out more causally interesting possibilities by checking for recent reviews or suchlike, as you have done. :twilightsheepish:

Get well soon

I hope you get better soon!

(I've no idea what might've happened with the story, though.)

Thank you! I hope I'm through the worst of it now, just sleeping and coughing a lot. Doctors were a bit concerned last week (I've had problems with my chest in the past and was very wheezy) but this week they signed me off to rest up for another fortnight with instructions to call if it gets worse. Mostly just tired!

It's so weird, though. That story has never been popular, and then it's got something like 10% of its total all-time views in the past 3 days. I mean, I'm happy it's being read (I think it's one of the better things I've written), so it's all good, but the total narcissist in me wants to know what someone said about my story!

You’re welcome

Ah, good; I hope that improvement continues!
