Well, in terms of travel, they're nonexistent since my parents told me to stay away. No Christmas with family this year, though I know I'm hardly alone in that. But as for writing...
Well, I've decided a couple things. I think, after nearly four months of doing it continuously, I've burned out on clop. That's bad news for the Unleash the Magic series, but good news for Firefly. And possibly one other story.
My plan right now is that I'm going to finish off this latest Midnight Rising chapter revamp (Fleur De Lis, anybody?), and then restart work on Firefly. I will attempt to have a new chapter ready by year's end. As for content, I was going to do the bat-ponies, detailing Captain Typhoon's visit to and negotiations with the Nightborne with a matching section from the Highborne. But, I also have a direct request from AJA to head back into the thick of the war. He wants to see combat again, but our heroes are not involved with it at the moment.
But that doesn't mean I can't deliver it. it is time to introduce yet another new character; another OC of AJ_Aficionado's who was in fact mentioned in the first volume. Namely, an earth pony Equestrian Army officer involved in the events around the IS-2 massacre and subsequent Phoenix Fire operation: then-Major Rock Biter, who is destined for a very notable role in this war. He has a WW2 analog in the form of a Soviet General, though I'll keep the details secret for now. But the chapter I'm planning regards the new offensive the gryphons launched and their first major target: the city of Maresk and its major Equestrian Army base of Fort Ironheart, just a couple hundred miles from the border.
Also... a possible major project for the new year. I don't want to get people's hopes up, but: I'm attempting to contact the founder of the Gentlemanverse, the great Demon Eyes Laharl himself, to obtain permission to take over one of his stories, and be allowed to finish one of my all-time favorite war epics on site.
Namely, the superb and sorely missed Feathered Heart.
For those who are unaware, that's a Gentlemanverse story set in the modern day Griffon Kingdom where US Marines ally with the gryphons to fight a war with an ancient griffon enemy. It has Gilda as the protagonist, and is part zombie movie, part military thriller. Yeah, I know how it sounds, but trust me--it works. It was not finished and really deserves to be. I've referenced it in multiple stories, including Five Star Service and even The Lawyer and The Unicorn. It's that good.
I don't know what will come of this, but I will try to get hold of him, and failing that, see what I'm allowed to do with an apparently abandoned story. Updates as I have them. In the meantime, try to enjoy this upcoming holiday season in whatever way you can. I'll do my part with new chapters.

I really hope we can get through to DEL. Feathered Heart must be finished! It is too great a work to not finish. It's a crime against fiction itself to see it incomplete!
Feathered Heart would be great to see updating again... Same with Firefly.
If you want to take over Changeling Roun too, I wouldn't say no.

I don't normally require that, but I do find I need to recharge those particular creative juices after a while of using (and draining) them. I call it the writing refractory period.

Me too, but he hasn't even updated his fanfiction account for two years.
I'm worried he's moved on completely and gone from the writing business for good. And if I can't reach him? I'll have to see what fimfiction allows me to do. I might just have to finish it somewhere off-site.

Hey, It's cool. "Unleash the magic" is the most 'liked' story but "Firefly" is like a baby to you. I get it. I'm sure it's great.

Thanks for understanding. Believe me when I say I wish Firefly had the most likes, as it's my favorite creation, but getting readers for it has been a very slow and frustrating process.
