How to continue this when you've changed? · 6:39pm Sep 7th, 2020
I've been stumped on this for a while. I do plan on finishing it and thanks to theRedBrony, I do have a finished outline that should probably be ironed out before I continue, but I've been stuck on this fic for a long while. The issue is I started focusing far more in my writing on showing rather than telling, in a big way. I've been trying to write scenes that focus on a narrowed perspective of one character only because I feel that, not only can I craft the best scenes like that, but it's just where my strengths lie.
But it's not exactly something I embraced early on and, as a result, fics like Feather Steel do not rely on that. I have been attempting to convert chapters in that fic over to this format, but in some cases, it may drastically alter the entire fic and I'm not entirely sure if it's the best idea. It's a conundrum that goes far beyond simple writer's block and I still don't know what I should do. But I'll keep you all in the loop when I've straightened these issues out.
I've found that different protagonists dictate how the story will be written. Feather Steel may just be more of a "teller" than a "shower" If this was an action/adventure story, it would be different, but Feather Steel is all about the protagonist and how he relates to the ponies around him.
Your readers strongly like the story in its current "teller" format. To be frank, the subset of the readership who prefer "show" stories dropped out in the first ten chapters. What you have left are the readers who are emotionally invested in the characters and don't care about which format you use.
I'd recommend that you push on through and complete the story with the emphasis on staying true to the characters rather than altering the writing style.
Just publish the outline, mate.
I'm afraid I don't have any particular advice for you here, but good luck, whatever shape that may take!

Oh, you're probably right and I do tend to overthink these sorts of things. Thanks for the reply.

Agreed. Finish it in the style that you started in, then try new things in your future writing.
