The Difficulty of Continuing a Story · 8:07pm Jul 15th, 2023
Why is it so difficult to do this sometimes? I feel like it's much, much easier to come up with a new story and write it out. But Celestia help you if you stop and want to continue later.

I know, right? I found one story I hadn’t looked at in years and I was reading through it like ‘this is great, why did I stop?’ and it’s because I hit a wall and guess what--that wall was still there

I think it might have something to do with the difficulty of remembering all the rules you set up and just going. It's less fun than making up new rules for a new story and far less fun than the excitement of starting a new story.
What I've done to get through this block is to focus on an upcoming scene I want to write. I get down at least the first draft of that.
At that point, writing out of the connecting scenes to get there is not as daunting a project as it first felt.

Not a bad idea... hmm
I try to force myself to reach something attainable each day - whether that's 2 pages, 1 page, 50 words, or a sentence will be different depending on the writer. I aim for that goal, but if I miss it, I do two things:
- Do not take that loss as a debt, because if I do, the disincentive to write will only grow
- Write at least something, even if it's just a few words.
Doing it each day keeps the story in my head and keeps at least some sort of progress going, even if it's at a snail's pace. The trick is getting yourself to do it every day, of course, and it's not perfect, but it's the method that works for me best.

This is a good suggestion too, I think!

Thay sounds like a good idea, actually. And the debt thing is easily something I can see failing so, also good idea.
Good luck!
