That Which Wasn't Taken · 12:34pm Aug 13th, 2020
I swear I had no idea what I was unleashing with that poll. The good news is that the furor it caused was exactly the inspiration I needed to tie together an Oversaturated World story I've been chipping away at for months. It also means I have to remove another scene to slot in the new one. The original exchange is under the fold.
"I am not in a good mood right now, Rarity."
Rarity had become very familiar with Sunset's "barely dealing with the idiots surrounding me" voice over the past few months. "Oh dear. Anything I can do to help?"
"It's not you, it's... well, complicated."
"I'm always willing to lend a sympathetic ear, darling."
"Have you heard of the lost continent of Lemuria?"
"... I have a sense that this is going to be a long story."
"There are lizard people involved."
"On a lost continent named after a kind of monkey?"
"Yeah, I don't get it either." Sunset took a deep breath. "You said you needed to get into Equestria?"
Lemuria was a hypothetical way for lemurs to have made it from India to the island of Madagascar because plate tectonics hadn't been discovered yet. Or at least that's how it started before being absorbed into the Conspiracy Matrix (not to be confused with the Matrix Conspiracy) which explains why it has lizard people instead of
SS&E fanslemur people. The More You Know©!See, I just hear the word Lemuria and think of "that nutballs bad guy organization from Genius: the Transgression." Probably doesn't help that I write the specific crossover.
Ah Theosophy... so much fun if you can take it at face value and ignore the racist bullshit XD Sunset dealing with Lemuria would be pretty hillarious though.
I thought Lemurians were the bad guys in Risk of Rain
Amber's a good choice, tbh
No comment on the misnamed lost continent that is actually called Kumari Kandam.

Both were taken from the same conspiracy theories, which I mentioned above.
...Huh. :D

Wait, it actually was named after lemurs? Wow, thanks!
Oh dear, lizard people? How would that manifest in the Oversaturated World?

Changelings are such an obvious 1:1 port of the conspiracy theories that it's kind of a shame that the Wholesome already exist.

Who do you think Sailor Orbital has been fighting? Turns out that Lemuria wasn’t so much ‘lost’ as ‘never on Earth in the first place’...

I like The Wholesome. Since we know what’s really up with them, more or less, it dodges the whole issue of conspiracy theories where they’re fun but when you scratch the surface it’s actually all about racism and/or antisemitism.
I've been looking on the Pantone website off-and-on to find a color matching Sunset's coat, in the hopes of finding what they had to say about the subject. And, I'm sad to say, I think I've found it. Let me curse you with knowledge:

Bah. You call that cursed? Brown is just dark orange, much in the same way that pink is light red.

It's true!
