leading suggestions: (will edit when more are suggested)
-Spike as an Equestrian equivalent of Zorro (would need a pony name/pun)
-Rarity as either her Shadow Spades cosplay or a pony version of Carmen San Diego (Carmine (red shade) San [insert horse pun]? Carmine Sandy [horse pun]?
-CMC with a group costume, possibly Equestrian equivalent PPG or 3 fairy tale characters

i'm still writing, and the big Nightmare Night chapter is coming up. i need costumes for some characters, but i'm having trouble.
i've figured out Lottie, Pinkie and Applejack (finally gonna give her a tin mare costume she deserved in the show). Twilight and Fluttershy don't need costumes for the story. i have a few cute ideas, but if you guys suggest something better, i'd be open to it. i need costumes for:
-Rainbow Dash
-Rarity (something fancy-looking maybe?)
-The CMC
-Spike
i like my idea for Pinkie, but im open to suggestions for her too (especially if it's a good one), nobody's costume is really plot relevant, just fun.
i'm open to whatever you guys come up with, given they aren't just references to things that Lottie would recognize. no movie or tv characters, literature and folk lore are okay probably. classic halloween costumes are okay too.
the NN chapter will still be a little while, so this post will be up for a while, no rush for ideas. please and thank you, whoever decides to help me out c:
Rarity could be a teddy bear to match sweetie who could be little red riding hood,
Scootaloo could be the headless horse.
Spike could be a dragon type pokemon from lottes world,
Applebloom could be blueberry waffle
And rainbow dash a monster hunter
Has Rainbow ever done a Daring Doo costume? Seems like something she'd go for.
Rarity, perhaps a heroine from one of those romantic novels she reads all the time?
The CMC, Does Equestria have an equivalent of The Three Musketeers? Something they can do as a trio.
Spike, probably a local comic book character.
I may not readed the story yet, but you should choose one of the HTTYD characters costumes for Spike. That's including the Rescue Riders ones.
Spike = Zorro
Rarity = Elena Don Diego de la Vega
This would either be a cute set up thought out by Spike as a I want to be romantic without being obvious type deal since he probably read a pony version of the Zorro comics. Or, if you're doing a romance between the two then it will be the obvious type deal, plus with the "I want to be her hero" mentality Spike has, The Dashing mysterious caped hero would fit well with her interests and his desire to be the hero.
Rainbow Dash = have Luna cast a spell that turns Rainbow into a bat Pony for the night.
Fluttershy = have her still be a fruit bat Pony with and the ability to control part of the change that she gets the wings and the fangs but would need fake ears and contacts to complete the appearance.
As for the cmc's I think they would make good sailor scouts.

i could see Rarity donning her Shadow Spade outfit from Rarity Investigates, definitely a possibility
good ideas for the kids too, maybe some other trio, tho i like the sound of “The Three Maresketeers”. maybe an in-universe ppg team? need to think of more trios

i was thinking of maaaybe Pinkie being a bear, so she could give everyone bear hugs. Rarity’s gotta be something fancier, i kinda backed myself into a corner writing-wise by saying she was working on a costume way back in the 7th chapter, whoops
i could see Sweetie being LRRH, if the rest of the CMC were like...the wolf for Scoots and maybe the woods pony for AB. or maybe other fairy tale characters for those two not from the same tale.

i could see Spike doin a pony-version of Zoro costume, tho im not a big Spike/any adult character shipper, it does fit his personality to be Zorro. good suggestion!
im not sure how in-universe culturally sensitive it is to dress up as a bat pony, plus in this story, Luna can’t do transformation magic anymore because she feels so guilty about creating bat ponies in the first place. might be too close to her Nightmare Night costume of a Shadowbolt too
and Flutters ain’t doin Nightmare Night this year, story takes place pre-season 4 and Scare Master, her big NN dressin up episode is season 5. she might show up for story reasons, but no costume. and that was kind of her costume for that episode too once she started scaring the rest of the mane 6
i didn’t really grow up with sailor moon, and it’s a bit too close to the one sailor moon pony in Scare Master, but I like the idea of a cutesy team costume, it’s in the right track!

im not really up for movie/tv references unless i can come up with an in-universe equivalent. and i can’t imagine a series called “how to train your dragon” would go over well with Spike, no matter how cute he’d be as Toothless. and tweak the idea too much and the reference gets lost. never saw the rescue riders show either, but thanks for your idea!

Oh that's okay, there's another idea that I was thinking that is from a game, but it heart breakingly been shutdown.
I do quite like the idea of Rarity going as a Carmen San Diego expy, she'd rock that look. As for spike being Zorro, which one? (yes I know they all look the same, those were some real classic shows)

if there are some real distinct differences in the costumes over the years, i’d happily ask for suggestions. but im not a big enough fan to think “ah! but which is the best, most iconic Zorro look?” i still gotta figure out the pony equivalent names of both Zorro and San Diego. that’s what’s driving me nuts
It would be funny if Rainbow went as a flower, because she finds them terrifying.
