Small Snippet For Next MFL Chapter!

"You'll wait here and be grateful that I find no cause for you to have an accident creature," she said, sneering.

I didn't know if it was instinct or a mixture of my newfound magic or...or something else.

I've finally managed to find the time to re-read the entire story up until The Abandoned chapter.

As such I now have both the information, feel and motivation to continue the epic tale of Richard and Chrissy.

    Here's a small sneak-preview -

"What in the hell is going on here?" I asked, eyes wide as I took in the frankly terrible sight.

Mated For Life (Last Snippet Before New Arc) · 2:38am Jul 7th, 2020

A few of you may recognize the similarities between this and a previous snippet. Suffice to say that I've scraped what I was going to do with that, and have instead gone forth with this.

Basically made it make more sense. Chrissy and Richard have been through a shite ordeal and wouldn't really be up to trusting anyone at the moment.

"And yet you left your inept Nephew in your stead to greet us," she snapped, her Zebrican accent heavily influencing her words. "AND he ran away half way through our meeting. Such a disgrace, Celestia! I and all of my tribe are offended! Why, I have half a mind to break our alliance!"

I stared at the huge group and almost grinned at the scathing words Celestia was being subjected to. Though as I continued to watch, I couldn't help but notice the amusement the Zebra mare was giving off.

Whoever she was, she was clearly enjoying ripping into Celestia.

"So...?"

I turned back and tried not to smile as Chrissy looked at me imploringly, her damnable eyes whitling me down as per bloody usual.

"Okay fine," I muttered, smiling despite myself as her own brightened considerably. "I'll play King with the Zebra's. But I'm going to remind you often just how much I dislike politics."

"I bet you will," she grinned. "It's not really so bad Richie. I couldn't give a whit about the Ponies. But one day we're going to have a Kingdom and the less enemies we have, the easier it will be to run it. Even if it take years to get to that point."

I hated to admit to it, but she did have a pretty good point.

I turned just in time to realize the Zebra had pushed past Celestia and was looking straight up at me, a curious look on her face. Before I could answer however, her eyes widened in slight recognition, the colour becoming the palest of white for all of a few seconds.

"What is this I see before me," she said, her voice distant and expression even more so, even while her eyes bored into mine. "A Raaf? How...interesting." Colour returned to her eyes and she smiled up at me, her emotions...unreadable?

'I can't sense anything from her, why?'

"Apologies for my...introduction," she said, snapping me out of my thoughts and onto her bemused face. "We Zebra are quite...how do you say, prone to see."

"See what?" I asked.

"The future," Chrissy whispered, drawing my attention onto her. "They're renowned for it, though I'll admit that I'm not entire familiar with their culture, so I don't know to what extent."

Choosing to ignore that for the moment, I turned my attention back onto the Zebra and smiled as best I could. "Yes, well. Hello, my name is Richard and this is Chrissy."

"Indeed," the mare chuckled, her expression almost as unnerving as the lack of tangible emotion. "I am Queen Ferelda of Zebrica. A pleasure to meet you, young Raaf."

"I...raaf?"

Her lips twitched, a secretive grin on her face. "Raaf, not raaf. It is our word for your kind."

Chrissy froze beside me, myself quickly following suit as her meaning became clear.

"A Raaf is an omen of dark things yet to come," Ferelda continued, apparently enjoying our stunned silence. "In our long history, many times have the skinwalkers tried to subvert Zebrica and its people. As such it is often said that the sighting of one can bring only misfortune to the one who saw it, or those around them."

"We do not harm those who do not attempt to harm us," Chrissy said, a slight hiss behind her words, her anger growing clear for all to see as her eyes glowed a soft green. "If the world would leave us be, we would not try to bite it. And we are not skinwalkers, we are shapeshifters."

"Two words, same meaning," Ferelda replied, ignoring Chrissy's thunderous expression as she turned back to me. "We shall meet in three days and talk."

"No we won't," I scoffed, her apparent arrogance already fucking me off.

"You will," she refuted, a glassy look in her eyes as they lost a smidge of colour. "A Raaf must know how to fly to avoid the fangs of the serpent."

She turned around briefly to glance at a very annoyed looking Celestia, the Alicorn unable to pay attention to us as she was surrounded by angry Zebra, all of which were taking turns throwing varied insults in her direction.

"You distracted her on purpose," Chrissy guessed, looking at her coldly. "How very shrewd of you."

She turned back and nodded once. "Three days, Raaf."

"His name is Richard," Chrissy hissed, stepping forward threateningly, her anger venomous. "Use it, Smerige hond."

I didn't know what Chrissy had just called her, but the Zebra clearly did as she gave my mate a dark look.

"Great, more to deal with," I muttered, glancing at Celestia who had apparently finally freed herself from the angry mob. "As if we needed more. What did you just call her?"

Chrissy sneered at the retreating Zebra, her expression softening into something less hostile as she looked at me. "She kept calling you Raaf, I just called her something back. A bit petty but...oh, I don't know why I got so angry."

"What does it mean, Raaf I mean?"

Chrissy frowned, said frown becoming a scowl as Celestia began to walk over to us. "It means Raven."

Chrissy did use a real life phrase btw, have fun figuring out what she said!

Afrikaans right?

If google translate is working, then I think Chrissy just called her a filthy bitch/dog?.

Could be wrong. If not then Chrissy deserves a hug for defending her Richard against the racist? Zebra.

If my Egyptian mythology is accurate, when Ferelda mentioned that

"A Raaf must know how to fly to avoid the fangs of the serpent."

this is a reference revolving around two gods of the Egyptian pantheon.

If Raaf means raven, it could be a reference of either Horus or Ra, as both are the most iconic gods of the Egyptian pantheon regarding birds, with some exceptions of course.

The fanged serpent is a reference to Apophis, the god that swallows the sun each night, only for Ra to rip it out of is stomach so that the sun may rise again.

Taking into consideration the not so friendly relationship between Richers, Chrysalis and Celestia this might be a spoiler for what might come next

It could either be that the sun never raises again, as in the age of ponies ends thanks to Richards DNA creating changelings instead of ponies, though something like that, regarding the dna will most likely get fixed via ‘magic’.

Or

I’m just “grasping at straw” here and just overanalysing shit again

Well you got me more intregued i look forward to the pay-off here

I like this better than the previous version. Also, go Chrissy!

Don't encourage him.

Hey, I speak Afrikaans and we don't really say "smerige hond", as far as I know. At least, not in my part of the country. Though most would understand what it means (probably), you're more likely to get funny looks for it (in my part of the country anyway).
If you want, I'd be happy to translate things to Afrikaans for you in a manner that makes sense. I'm no linguistic expert, but I do know my mother tongue better than Google translate.

That aside, I just picked up this story and its prequel three days ago, and only caught up to the most recent chapter today. The part where Naerx showed Richard and Chrissy what Luna did in the past really fucking got to me. I had to put down the story for almost half a day to get my head back on straight. I wanted to punch something so fucking badly.
Any author who can make a reader feel like that is a damn good author. Worth more than their weight in gold.
You have a wonderful talent.
