Director's cut: Starlight, I'm Sorry! · 12:47am May 16th, 2020
I first thought of the idea for the story around three or so months ago, but at first it was Twilight Sparkle, not Starlight Glimmer, that entered heat. Because Twilight was a main character in my last three stories with my OC Eric Reed ("Alicorns and Beards", "That Morning I Woke Up With an Alicorn Princess", and its sequel "That Afternoon I Lied About Impregnating an Alicorn Princess") I used Starlight in Twilight's place. I made this change well before I started writing the story, so this wasn't one of those changes I may do during editing.
In fact, after I wrote the story, I wondered if I should have used one of the other Mane 6 members as the mare in heat instead. Twilight and Starlight are two of the most often used characters in my stories with Eric, so for some variety, I could have used another mare instead. Again, this thought happened after I wrote the story, so it was too late.
Moving on. Back to when Twilight was still the pony to enter heat, a change from how the story was originally was how the rest of the Mane 6 acted. As well as having all of them, not just Rarity, they were all going to know about Twilight entering heat and actually try to warn Eric about it when he tries to look around for her. If the story stayed like this, it would have still ended very much as it did with Starlight being in heat, although there would have been no mentioning of finding Trixie.
Here's a fun fact in case you overlooked it: I looked up on ways real-life mares act when they're in heat, besides just being more "willing", and one thing is that they may raise their tails. This was why Starlight had her tail raised. I thought it would be a nice touch to add little details like that. As for how Eric learned this, he learned this fact off-screen from just living with ponies in Equestria. He didn't know stuff like this when he was still in his human world.
The biggest edit change this story had during editing was Rarity. I first picked Applejack to have the role Rarity had, but it somewhat felt more fitting to have Rarity be the one to play the role she did.
The other noteworthy edit was that Eric mentioned how the Mane 6 (except Twilight) had entered heat since he's been in Equestria, but they always took off somewhere right before it happened. It felt too much like filler for some reason, so I took it out.
