Morning all, just a quick update to let everyone know what's going on in my neck of the woods.
I imagine many of you are sick of hearing about Coronavirus by now, but it has rapidly become a major thorn in my side. Largely because I work in a supermarket.
Panic-buyers are a nightmare. We've put restrictions in place for the sale of certain items (toilet roll, baby essentials and, bizarrely, baked beans?) but we are still struggling to keep up with demand.
On the vanishingly small chance that any of you know someone vulnerable in the Cwmbran area who can't get hold of the essentials let me know as I may be able to grab some stuff off the delivery lorry before it leaves the warehouse (I can't promise, but I've managed it once already and the managers are turning a blind eye).
Another problem with the damn virus is that many of our staff, entirely understandably, are having to take time off either to look after their children now that the schools are closing, or to self isolate. My brother is one of the latter. Hopefully he's just got an ordinary cold, but until we know for sure this is hitting pretty close to home.
I'm following all of the guidelines for staying safe (and I strongly suggest that you all do the same) but working up close and personal with customers makes catching something pretty much a pot luck. To add insult to injury, I'm currently deaf in one ear. I had an appointment booked with a doctor to find out why, but the day before the appointment all non-emergency appointments were cancelled and it's remaining that way until the pandemic is over. Fun.
The end result of this, aside from my mental health taking a nosedive into 'tenuous at best' territory, is that I'm having to cut back on my writing.
First of all, I'll state outright that Fallout Girls, Cards Against the Princesses and Pokémon Red and Purple will be unaffected. Those are my main three and I'll keep them going. Fallout Girls in particular has a buffer in place so I can keep regular updates up. However, the rest of my fics may take a little longer to update, and I'll be bowing out of Shrink Laureate's Season 10 Bingo Writing Contest (I'll still finish the story, but there's no chance in hell of it getting done by the deadline).
On a more positive note, one of the reasons some of my fics have been updating slowly is because of what I've been working on that I haven't published yet.
Firstly, a collaboration with another writer. I'm waiting until we've got a few chapters written before we publish, and we're figuring out which of us is going to publish it or whether we'll open a separate collab account for it, but it's something I think many of you will enjoy. (Yes, it is indeed another crossover story.)
I'm also working on two other fics, and it's these that I'll be cutting back on more than anything. I don't plan on publishing either until they're finished, so they'll be a while coming I'm afraid. One will be Silent Hill based, while the other will be quite an ambitious Harry Potter project. Hopefully when I finally get them finished you'll enjoy them.
Anyway, I think that's everything. Sorry for the essay, but I felt that I needed to get a few things out there.

i feel yah man. I work at Walmart and was nearly trampled once already.
There is not meat to be found at any supermarket where I'm from, and during pizza week. At my part-time I had to wear a breathing mask since I take in packages.
