    Eclipse 2024

Best of luck to everyone chasing the solar eclipse tomorrow. I hope the weather behaves. If you are close to the line of totality, it is definitely worth making the effort to get there. I blogged about how awesome it was back in 2017 (see: Pre-Eclipse Post, Post-Eclipse

    End of the Universe

I am working to finish Infinite Imponability Drive as soon as I can. Unfortunately the last two weeks have been so crazy that it’s been hard to set aside more than a few hours to do any writing…

    Imponable Update

Work on Infinite Imponability Drive continues. I aim to get another chapter up by next weekend. Thank you to everyone who left comments. Sorry I have not been very responsive. I got sidetracked for the last two weeks preparing a talk for the ATOM society on Particle Detectors for the LHC and Beyond, which took rather more of my time than I

    Imponable Interlude

Everything is beautiful now that we have our first rainbow of the season.

What is life? Is it nothing more than the endless search for a cutie mark? And what is a cutie mark but a constant reminder that we're all only one bugbear attack away from oblivion?

    Quantum Decoherence

    Happy end-of-2023 everyone.

I just posted a new story.

    EInfinite Imponability Drive
In an infinitely improbable set of events, Twilight Sparkle, Sunny Starscout, and other ponies of all generations meet at the Restaurant at the end of the Universe.

This is one of the craziest things that I have ever tried to write and is a consequence of me having rather more unstructured free time than usual for the last week.

Commissioning Particle Physics Stories - Reminder · 10:54pm Dec 8th, 2019

A reminder that I am offering to commission pony stories inspired by particle physics. I am offering £25 ($32.84) per 1000 words for fics in some way connected to one of these topics:

Dark Matter
Neutrinos
Antimatter
Future Colliders
Cosmic Rays

For full details see this post: Commissioning Fanfiction for Science Communication – Inviting Pitches

If you are up for this challenge please pitch me an idea.

After an initial flurry I have received no more interest. This is partly my fault as I haven't been promoting the idea. To avoid this dragging on I propose a deadline of 15 December - so you have one week. All I want now is a short description to let me pick the best ideas. If I go with yours, we can agree a schedule for writing (no rush).

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or want to discuss an idea.

I did a report on particle accelerators when I was six. I should hop on this.

For what it's worth, I at least am interested enough that it's been on my mind more-or-less since you first posted – I just haven't had any bolts of inspiration for an idea worth writing, and I've been too busy to come up with any prompts the hard way. (Absent any epiphanies, I expect I'll have to reread through all your stories and blogs and do a bunch of external research on the topics before I come up with something fitting, and that will take a while.) Again, if you yourself have any ideas you want to test out having us write and/or if you end up with any abandoned pitches whose originators grant permission to pass them to other people, I'm up for giving writing them a shot.

I'll offer some possible story ideas tomorrow - like I did on my cosmic rays post.
