    Eclipse 2024

Best of luck to everyone chasing the solar eclipse tomorrow. I hope the weather behaves. If you are close to the line of totality, it is definitely worth making the effort to get there. I blogged about how awesome it was back in 2017 (see: Pre-Eclipse Post, Post-Eclipse

    End of the Universe

I am working to finish Infinite Imponability Drive as soon as I can. Unfortunately the last two weeks have been so crazy that it’s been hard to set aside more than a few hours to do any writing…

    Imponable Update

Work on Infinite Imponability Drive continues. I aim to get another chapter up by next weekend. Thank you to everyone who left comments. Sorry I have not been very responsive. I got sidetracked for the last two weeks preparing a talk for the ATOM society on Particle Detectors for the LHC and Beyond, which took rather more of my time than I

    Imponable Interlude

Everything is beautiful now that we have our first rainbow of the season.

What is life? Is it nothing more than the endless search for a cutie mark? And what is a cutie mark but a constant reminder that we're all only one bugbear attack away from oblivion?

    Quantum Decoherence

    Happy end-of-2023 everyone.

I just posted a new story.

    EInfinite Imponability Drive
In an infinitely improbable set of events, Twilight Sparkle, Sunny Starscout, and other ponies of all generations meet at the Restaurant at the end of the Universe.

This is one of the craziest things that I have ever tried to write and is a consequence of me having rather more unstructured free time than usual for the last week.

This is one of the craziest things that I have ever tried to write and is a consequence of me having rather more unstructured free time than usual for the last week.

It is incomplete. I’m posting a teaser chapter now so that I can get a story out in 2023, and hence claim at least one for every calendar year since 2012 (my last one was 7 January 2022). Also because if I don’t publish it now, it will likely be put to the side and never finished. I have another three chapters drafted and I hope to finish it in the next week or so.

Ever since Bridlewoodstock, I have wanted to have a go at a fic crossing pony generations. Linking G4 and G5 is easy, but when you try to add any more, it quickly becomes incoherent. I realized that it would be necessary to make decoherence part of the story. That reminded me of some ideas I had years ago about a possible crossover with the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. It occurred to me that as MLP and H2G2 both run on very similar types of absurdist logic, it should be easy to fuse them together, however doing so might lead to some sort of adverse reaction due to the very different cultures. Ponies are all about harmony and friendship, while hitchhikers shows the galaxy to be not a very harmonious or friendly place. The Tell Your Tale episode Mission Imponable provided a twist of the English language that I could bend further into a horseshoe and nail to the hooves of five generations of ponies.

I can think of many reasons not to do this experiment, but I decided to ignore them and do it anyway.

Share and enjoy.

OMGrflgr! This ought to be incredible! :pinkiehappy:

This feels more like something that Douglas Adams would have wrote than anything currently in the story and I'm not sure how to feel about that.
