If I Could Delete This I Would

I know, I'm sorry in advance. I hated writing this but I'm in a real pinch and don't know what else to do. Explanation below, please read this if you have the time.

I dunno, it's really hard to put all of your personal information out there like this, but I suppose the only way I can ever expect anyone to understand is to share what's been going on, so let's get into it...

    Signal Boost for B_25

Hey gang, wish this was a story update coming to you right now but I've got one in the works so keep your eyes peeled—however I've noticed my friend B falling into dire straits over the last couple months and after he's helped me multiple times in the past with my own issues, I thought it only fitting I give a shout out to him when he's having trouble.

Fighting Depression and Stress: The 'I'm Fucking BACK' Edition

Yup yup, you read it right, I'm actually returning to this website, finally! It's been so much of a mental battle and uphill climb to get to this point after what was easily the worst and most potent burnout period and financial stress of my life, but I can safely say at this point that I'm beginning to see a way to get back on the horse, but it involves all of you.

THE BLOG WHERE I PISS PEOPLE OFF · 3:39pm Jan 24th, 2019

Guess it's time to flex. Read my thoughts on this below.

Not really a big fan of writing these milestone blogs. They feel self-serving, arrogant, and all types of other bad things. I don't feel as if I should be vocally taking pride in this achievement, because in doing so, I might be stepping on someone else's toes, or that simply highlighting something like this might offend others in some way.

I'm gonna, like, stop caring about that for a few minutes, because I honestly am proud of what it took to get here, and I want to share that. The gravity of this is pretty fucking intense, after all, and I feel like that should be highlighted.

I wanna preface this by saying that this isn't 2011-2014 anymore. I took the couple of minutes necessary to look through the current top 100 authors on the site in terms of follows (now including me), and not a single account there was made after 2014. My account was made December 2017. This says a lot.

A lot of the people who have been on the site for a while might be aware that the front few pages have looked pretty much the same in terms of most followed accounts for years. Many of the authors there made their accounts in 2011-2013 (2014 accounts are the most rare) and through early successes, pushed themselves to the top of the ladder. The time period between 2012-2015 was when the site was most active, and 2014 was its peak in activity.

What does all of this mean? It means that a vast majority of the top followed authors on the site have retained their positions for years, despite many of them having either left the site or having stopped producing content (Darf, TAW, Reality Check, TittySparkles, etc.), and yet they haven't been upended by new, emerging authors that have created their accounts in the last five years, over half of the life of this website. These old accounts have kept the 'top 100' spot for six or seven years, and only a handful of 2014-made accounts have managed to get in there since. They've had less time to, of course.

Well, until me, that is, who made an account 3rd December 2017, I'll reiterate.

I think the reasons for this are twofold. It seems that people were a lot more generous with follows when the site was younger and the readerbase was rapidly escalating. I think that the early 'fandom classics' that developed in the fandom's fledgling years netted their authors a larger than usual follow boost based on that fact alone, and mostly, I think the lack of a tracking feature early in the days of the site was a big contributor.

Now, I've only been on the site for a year, so correct me if I'm wrong on this, FimFic veterans, but as I understand it, the tracking feature never used to exist like it does now. If you wanted to be notified of new stories and sequels from an author, you had to follow them in order to make sure that you'd see all of your updates.

But now? Now, you can track a story, and you don't need to worry about whether or not you have 'follow' clicked on an author. You can join groups and see all the added stories in your feed without having to follow anyone or deal with their blogs. There's no urgency, no demand beyond getting a notification for non-sequel stories in a user's feed and being able to see author blogs when they're posted. When I asked a few users via PM months ago, I found that many of them said they don't follow authors (or many authors) because they just don't see what function the follow serves.

And I think this is part of the reason why newer authors just haven't seen the same level of followings that the old guard did over the last few years. There's little agency to follow an author nowadays. But maybe I'm wrong about the whole tracking thing on early versions of FimFic. I'm curious, so please feel free to tell me in the comments.

So, why am I the exception? Why is it that out of the last 100,000+ accounts to be made on the site since late 2014, I'm the only one so far to have made it into the esteemed top 100?

Luck, maybe. Consistency and a frequent posting schedule, perhaps. Truth is, I don't know. All I know is that you guys, my followers, have and continue to break the established status quo on new accounts and follows. You've been doing it all year round, and still are. Does that mean I'm doing something right? Will it continue to go like this? I can't say.

But let me say now, this doesn't make me better than anyone. I'm incredibly grateful that all of you have chosen to follow me and my work, more than you could imagine, but me pointing out the fact that I'm the newest account to break in? It's as much an expression of confusion as it is of accomplishment. It isn't a criticism on older authors either, for taking up the space or whatever. Am I going to tell those people that they didn't deserve their follows? Hell no.

But I do hope that I'm the start of a trend. There are a lot of old, inactive accounts lingering on the top of the heap, and it would be nice to see more of the prolific, current writers that consistently put forward popular content being able to say that they too have managed to make it into the high ranks. It's just a statistic at the end of the day, but it represents a lot, and I'd like more new and up and coming authors to be able to pat themselves on the back for all of their hard work. A lot of them work harder than me, and deserve it even more than I did! (I mean, do I deserve it?)

But honestly? Thank all of you. This is a weird follow milestone, of course, if you were to look at the actual number, but what it corresponds with, rank 100? That's absolutely awesome. I still have so much more to do, to write, as well, and I'm incredibly glad to have all of you along for the ride. Doesn't look like the trend's stopping any time soon, either, though I don't wanna jinx it!

But... yeah! This did take a lot of writing and thinking and planning and blah blah blah—RANK ONE HUNDRED, WOO!

well, actually, we only had the favorite function, so if we wanted to follow a story, we would either favorite the story, or follow the author.

naturally, most of us did both when said writer made multiple things.

Thanks for saying! That helps confirm what I was thinking already.

There's not a single thing wrong with taking a moment to look at what you've accomplished and be proud of it. You did something really impressive, and you deserve every ounce of pride you feel about that.

I personally still use both functions but maybe I'm just stuck in my ways

> pissed off
> immediately unfollows
jk
> follows again

Good job faggot.

Dude just congrats man that honestly is quite impressive. Sorry but that's all I got is just congrats.I

Congrats.

And personally I use both but think that skipping out on Follow is a big mistake.

A big part of what makes you like an author isn't just what they are writing but how they are, and if you like an author's work, throwing a follow their way is a way to continue to see said work.

An Author may only be featured once....is it worth risking they write something else you like but you not see it because it never reached the same popularity.

As for your theory on more joining you....I think in the long term it will happen. New people still join the site, new people still follow (even if they follow less), and old people fade away. Dedicated people who make stuff that is consistently well received will follow your path. It maybe slower....most people enjoy good sex so your choice of topic and mastery of it certainly helped. (As seen by 2 groups dedicated to porn being in the top six groups on the site)

But we will see a new top 100 due to, good Luna stories. Or good TwiDash stories, or other popular things in the fandom.

I do believe that the time for top 100s who write only a few stories is over though. Those who seek to match your hights or go beyond you will find the path that DawnFade, MadMaxtheBlack, Hoopy McGee and especially Kkat is closed.

((How on earth did they only write 2 stories, one of which was originally written elsewhere then moved here and still remain number 3 most followed on the site. I love FoE but what magic is this.))

the good clopfics helps I think. Out of all the fandoms that exist mlp probably has the highest rate of pornography being created, so a lot of us are thirsty for more, and you cover a fairly wide range of characters and fetishes.

Fuck that Tallbird.

We HAD a tracking option separate from favourites, at for part of 2012. It was a thing when I joined. (I don't think it lasted into the spring)

Knighty removed it because he thought it was redundant (it kind of was but not totally) and people complained about it for awhile and moved on.

You could reach out to Knighty and see if he remembers better.

Oh yeah yeah

This is great! Props to you my man! I know you worked hard for it :rainbowlaugh::pinkiehappy:

Well done! Honestly, I love your work but yes, it is a little weird that newer writers have to struggle to get recognition.

Keep being lewd, my dude.

Congrats!
That spot is well earned!

Congrats!

Wierd flex, but ok.

Luv you and your work, continue to succeed and make gud stories. Congrats on your 100th place, you have had hardships on the way but you overcame them.

Authors if you blog please advertise in your notes or comment section. I'm a content black hole and I don't follow people mostly because I don't think of it.

Anywho I followed recently cuz I was linked to your blog:twilightblush:

I'm usually not one who has a lot to say and this is no different, you've accomplished something truly great, a feat I could not get in my wildest dreams, I commend you for reaching this great height.

Engage the Sexy Flex,congrats!

Just wanted to chime in on the tracking thing since I happened to wander by.

First of all you're completely right that follows were a lot more carefree back then. I somehow have two followers from around 2012-2013 and I don't even know why, all I do is read and lurk!

Now it's true that before Bookshelves we had much simpler tracking system (which changed several times, making a bit of a mess in the process...), but all in all it was functional. At the time you could even subscribe to story updates by mail! (is that still a thing? I have no idea!).

Anyways, congrats on the hard earned follows, I'm glad to see relatively new authors can still make it!!

way late but i just wanted to add my 2 bits .despite this account only being made this year ive been on this site for 8 years my first account was back in 2016 before that i just read what i read . what im trying to say is its crazy how much everything has changed yet also stayed the same .back in 2012 everyone was was all the rage about changelings and everyone was linking stories from equestria daliey and foe fics evin thou foe itself was not on site yet and project horizons was far from done. its crazy that everything is different now a lot of the authors from then are gone and all the things are different and i have changed with the time but i still remember those days and i feel old
