My thoughts on the Doctor Who New Year's Special below.

"My. Face. Is. NOT. BOVVERED!"

The first Lady Doctor has her first encounter with a Dalek on the first day of 2019 in the first ever New Year's special.

This year's holiday special was very, very...firsty.

It was also quite brilliant! We got to see the Thirteenth Doctor come face to face with the Doctor's oldest, deadliest foe for the first time. And, just to make things more interesting, this is the single longest time a Dalek has been outside of its casing in a Doctor Who story, not counting Dalek Sec.

For the majority of this special, the Dalek Thirteen and her fam are chasing down is minus the traditional pepperpot, and proves that even in one-eyed octopus form, Daleks are not to be taken lightly. The special also deals with some leftover family drama for Ryan and Graham as Ryan's dad shows up to reconcile with Ryan (and conveniently comes bearing the very thing they needed to defeat the Dalek), and gets in what I can only assume to be some scathing political/economic satire at the expense of Brexit (the shuttering of UNIT due to withdrawn international funding).

Jodie Whittaker has already proven herself as an amazing Doctor in some fresh, exciting adventures. Now we know she can hold her own against the most ancient and iconic of the Doctor's foes.

IKR? While her start may have been a bit rough, I felt she was fantastic as the Doctor

I agree, the first appearance of a classic Who foe in Thirteen's reign was worth every penny. Whittaker was every bit as bold as any of her male counterparts, and she even tried to show the Dalek mercy.

I can't wait to see where they go next.

EDIT: Does anyone else think the actress pictured above looks a lot like a young Margot Kidder (R.I.P.)?

:rainbowderp: Girls... I found Sunset.
:applejackconfused: Darnit, she went ahead and did it. Ah told her. Ah told her it was a bad idea.
:raritydespair: I-I don't think that is supposed to fit there.
:ajbemused: It's not.
:rainbowderp: Right. I'll uh... put this back here and we'll pretend we didn't see anything, alright? Alright.

While her start may have been a bit rough

How so? She's been nothing but brilliant since the first second she appeared. When her first series debuted, she firmly established herself as not only the Doctor, but a BRILLIANT Doctor in under a minute. I was sold on her in her first scene, and she's only grown more amazing since--she's been my second favorite Doctor ever for some time now.

I meant the controversy and people blowing steam over a female being cast as The Doctor. I didn't care, She was a pretty damn good actress to play the Doctor, and she has been a delight, having the same energy as her predecessors and well, Demons of the Punjab and the Rosa Parks episodes showcased that well. She WANTS to save people, but doesn't want to alter history. Plus, with Graham presumably being of Irish descent, and being around in the 50's, its likely he himself faced prejudice....

I mean damn, those were just well done episodes

"It's a sonic horseshoe."
*Clang clang*
"See? Sonic!"

I really need to catch up on Doctor Who.

:raritydespair: Oh dear, did someone forget to tell her ?
:applejackunsure: Nope. Ah told that horse girl.
:rainbowderp: Gah... Sunset!! We told you to remove steel capped boots.

"Property of Clover T. Clever?"

And I've unfortunately only seen about half the new season since I only sporatically get BBCA during free trial periods (It's not normally part of our package), but what I saw, I liked. Can't wait for the DVD release so I can get caught up.

oh, boy: looks like "Time Turner" started his regeneration on the wrong side of the mirror...

Wait we must though. No new episodes until 2020.
:(

Jodie is an amazing actress. She just needs better writers.

4989786
Ah, OK. I thought you meant actual episode-wise, not the brouhaha over a lady Doctor.

4989789
Yes. Yes you do. But really don't bother with anything except Thirteen's run so far, if you're behind on the Moffat-Capaldi stuff. You can basically ignore the entire run of Peter Capaldi as the Doctor.

4989798
I think you can watch it free on the app or the BBCA website regardless of your cable provider subscription.

4989829
Oh, I've seen the Capaldi stuff. Netflix is dumb. They update it once a year in my country, I'm not sure when I'll get it but I'll get the whole lot in one go.
Same with MLP, but I make more of an effort to watch it when it goes live.

Rarity: "There's something written on that horseshoe. What does G3 means?"

RD: *Shivers* "I don't know, but I feel that we should bury this and forget we ever found it"

I feel your pain buddy

I mean, I liked Capaldi. Now, I might be biased, as while I liked him, Eleven will hold a special place in my heart (As the first DW episode I saw was one of his, then I saw one of Tennant's). But yeah, so far, Jodie is doing a phenomenal job as the Doctor.

Horseshoe: Miss Dash, I don't feel so good...
