New non-MLP project coming up this new years · 3:33pm Dec 19th, 2018

Hey gents. I've been kept pretty busy over the past year by lots and lots of science-y stuff, which has been epic, but pretty time and mind-consuming. At least I get a swish title at the end of it though! And money. Money is nice. I've discovered I quite like being able to spend more cash on booze and coffee.

I'm back in Scotland, and looks like I'll be there for the foreseeable future as well.

With all this going on I've not had the energy to really do more than work on a pretty ambitious project that will hopefully be going semi-live at New Years. I don't really have any expectations for it, since it's very unlike anything I've ever done before, but my hope is that it'll be fun, exciting, and definitely worth a read.

It's an original fiction work, not really got much to do with MLP aside from the fact that they both feature talking, intelligent animals. The furry bait is strong with this one. It'll be hosted on a site that I'll be managing myself (this is what's been so time-consuming about it) so that I can play with the format in a much more extensive way than I can on other sites. Since site-building is a new concept to me, I expect the site to improve as time goes on, but by new years I want it to have the basics of a simple structure, place to host comments, and of course, the pages for the story itself, which will be complete with its own art (some of it provided by me, and some provided by the same dude who did the cover for Weatherpony and some others). I may, as time goes on, commission other stuff (hopefully music, but as I'm a man of no musical talent I'm keeping that one aside for now) depending on how things go.

I've been keeping news about this fairly close to my chest, since for a long time it didn't look certain that I'd be able to get this stuff off the ground. As I'm about to go on holiday, however, I'm pretty confident that at least something will end up going live before we hit 2019, and it should be evolving pretty rapidly now that the basic framework has been tested locally (although some stuff is still missing, because of course it is).

The story itself is partly inspired by a lot of things, like D&D, sci-fi, and a bunch of other stuff. As we get closer and closer to release I'm hoping to share some concept art and stuff to break up the monotony of endlessly bashing my head against a keyboard (which is how I write html and CSS, apparently). The art will shift between dnd-style top-down maps (the kind you'd see in roll20, for those familiar) using nothing but custom assets (made myself, on a fucking touch-pad no less), more advanced and streamlines portraits, and custom stuff for individual scenes.

It's pretty ambitious for a guy who's never done any of this crap before, so all in all I'm pretty excited. I'm a man addicted to pain.

Cheerio, gents

Hap

4983277 Cheers.

I've already done at least one thing wrong so that's a start! : ) Hopefully fixable.

Nothing's wrong with an original project. I sometimes think of doing original works.

4983311 It's pretty fun. I at some point want to figure out how to make a format for others to post stuff on the site as well, so it can host other original stuff whilst allowing users to play with the code of the pages themselves, but frankly that's going to take an eternity and a half for me to figure out.

For now I'd just like to get my own story up on the site, plus set up some basic forums before New Years, and see where it goes from there.

My ideas for original works tend to be based on shonen anime.
