Well, so, I didn't make my Nano goals... · 5:23am Dec 9th, 2018
...surprise, surprise. But I did get a full chapter done on Cold Light (the superhero novel about the villain trying to save the team mentor's baby). I am kinda pissed that the plot of the newest Deadpool movie is so similar to The Cold At The Heart Of The Light (amoral killer with healing factor but strong emotional attachment to children is trying to rescue a child who's destined to become an evil murderer in the future from a time traveling superhero... goddamn it, I've had this plot since 1992!) But, I do think it makes a different that it's a baby, that he's supposed to conquer the world and turn it into a shitshow, and that all the superheroes are in on it, because that invokes more of the original trope -- the "would you kill Hitler as a baby" question that people have been asking for a long time now. For those who care, the latest chapter is up on my Patreon, and I will probably be putting it up on either my Livejournal writing account or a Dreamwidth account shortly.
Anyway, so this means I'm back to being able to write fanfic. I've begun work on Elements of Opposition and also Last Draconequus (since Discord was in a really shitty place at the end of the last chapter of LD, so even though i've done one this year, I started the next already); which one would people prefer I finish first? (Like I don't know... :-))
Aw shoot, sorry to hear that. It's great to have you back though!
That's also roughly the plot of Cosmic Ghost Rider.
Casting my vote for Opposition.
At least you had a goal, and worked towards it, and that's admirable. :D
Casting my vote for Elements of Opposition, need my semi-regular dose of suffering.
Hey, a chapter is better than nothing; I'd be proud if I were you.
Once it's done, is a physical copy of Cold Light planned or is it going to stay digital?
For fics... I'm dying to see baby D interact with a decent adult that isn't immediately murdered right after. On the other hand, EoO is so close to being done and I know the ending is going to kill me in the best way...
Dangit, I gotta go with EoO.
I adore both, but I can taste the ending of EoO and I'm excited for the inevitable recovery fic. I can't wait to see how Discord recovers mentally from something like this.
Count me as among the Loyal Opposition!
I can't remember anyone on this site that has actually succeeded in their Nano goals, so don't feel bad about that. It's hard to write 50k words about anything, even if the world is already created in your mind. The people who can crank things out like that are absolutely insane. Cold Light sounds really interesting. I'm curious if it's a fanfic or a legit novel. If it's a legit novel and it's on Kindle, I would probably throw a good 5 or 10 bucks your way for it. As for the plot? Almost everything original has been done, so there's always going to be some overlap between ideas. As for Personally, I would almost-but-not-quite murder someone for another chapter of Not the Hero, but if I have to choose between EoO and LD, EoO would be incredible, but I would be grateful for anything honestly.
Elements of Opposition!

"The Cold At The Heart Of The Light" is an original novel. It takes place in a universe with superheroes that's heavily based on the X-Men, except with slightly better fake science (the main character, who is a bio-mad scientist, is fond of telling people that no, Proximas are not actually a different species than Sapiens, they are in fact only one gene different. (Proximas being the equivalent of "mutants" in my universe.)
I intend to try to publish it professionally through a real publisher, though self-publishing might be an option if that fails, but one way or another I'll make sure it ends up as an ebook.
Elements of Opposition, naturally. ;-) I've followed it for years and years and I can't wait to see it come to its sure-to-be satisfying conclusion!
Oh wow, I'd completely forgot about nanowrimo until just now...
Ah. To a lesser extent, this reminds me of a fic-idea I had during the season 3 / 4 hiatus. At the time, it seemed like a brilliant, original concept I hadn't seen done before in MLP; It involved a time traveler repeatedly experiencing bad futures, braving them in attempt to craft a desired outcome, culminating in the creation of our current MLP-timeline.
...However, I don't particularly enjoy reading "dark", so I shelved it for the time being, but never quite got the idea out of my head.
Years passed, and I finally got over myself and sat down to write it - and got about 80% done in a rather short time. (In the end it turned out writing 'dark' is easier than reading it.) Then, after years of the idea sitting on a shelf, the season 5 finale suddenly happened as I was writing and it wasn't an original idea anymore.
Elements of Opposition, please.
Last Draco or Not the Hero. Hands down.
Edit: reread Elements of Opposition, I want another chapter from that.
