I can feel my muse crying. That's how bad the Jossing is. But, it's clear you guys care so much about my story that you don't care what form the canon takes. I've kinda come to realize that myself as well. The show is neat, but the really good stories here on FimFic really take the world to the next level, and they go beyond what the canon can do. So, I'm going to do my best to keep going. It might take even longer than before, seeing as my muse will have to strain harder to fight the pain of being Jossed, but I shall make every effort to continue. As long as it's still fun, I'll keep going. And you know what? You guys help make it fun. Seeing how much you guys love my writing is what really helps keep me going.
To that end, every now and then I'm going to pop up with a post to an IRC channel where I can chat directly with you guys, the fans. If you're very lucky, I might even spoil some things. Some very, very small things. (River might just shoot otherwise.)
Block two is still a long way from being done. With luck, the first chapter of block two will be posted late January-ish? That's a guess, not a commitment. I've got a couple minor adjustments to make on the upcoming side story, and my wonderful, diligent, and talented wife is still working on the cover art. Once those two are done, I'll be posting that story and the next chapter of Rites.
So, when is the first chat going to be? How about... right now!
I have no idea how long I'll be on. I'm running on very little sleep and my head hurts and could collapse at any point. So this could be for five hours or five minutes. The link will stay up until the chat either gets too full to be manageable or I sign off, whichever happens first.
Also, in the future I'll be mostly be keeping these updates to my watchers rather than pushing it out to everyone that's fav'd Rites, so if you're annoyed at these last couple updates, don't worry, I don't normally do that.

It does suck, seeing how the canon's now gonna mess with alicorn-ification stories (and possibly royal sister backstories if Celestia explains how it happens), but I think you should still go for it. Trust me, Rites is a gem, regardless of whether it's canon or not.
Nothing is for certain. At least not until it airs officially for me. (I have not seen the clip, nor any clip and that is not likely to change in the next 11 days.) All we have to go on for such a thing is one potentially incorrect vector choice for a panel or convention or whatever it was in Europe, and some people possibly taking stuff out of context.
I personally think that Alicorn Twilight vector that appeared on the banner was someone over there who either could not speak English and mistook a fan vector for official, or someone who did a Google search or something and that was the first thing to pop up.
At least, that is my theory unless it DOES become canon, but we will cross that bridge when we get to it.

Yay! I will happily read this as long as you keep writing it, no matter what happens in canon. I'd join the chat, but I'm at work at the moment and probably shouldn't.
And to be honest, there's every chance that as fans we are being influenced by the idea of Alicorn Twilight that exists in the fanon in such a way that we are reading way too much into those first eight minutes. Yeah, there's that promotional material art of Twilight with wings, but who's to say that isn't just the artists having too much fun. There's some rather old art of Scoots flying after all, and that hasn't exactly happened yet.
For all we know, we'll get to the end of the season, Twilight will be promoted to Archmage of Ponyville or Canterlot or some other fancy title, and that will be that.
You should see if Hasbro will hire you as a scriptwriter, and then you can turn rites of ascension into season 4.

I am so glad you decided to continue this fic! It is one of my top favorites on FIMFICTION.
I also like that you have not yet added any type of shipping.
Shipping just gets in the way of proper story development most of the time.
(err what I mean is: FINALLY AN ALICORNTWIFIC WITHOUT TWILUNA!!!)

Just saw both the blogs you had posted. Honestly, I've never watched the show. There is only so much depth that a Kids rated show can put into characters, and I really don't have much interest in watching it for that sole fact. However, the stories that are here, yours included, add so much depth and complexity, to both characters and the world. And in regards to your specific story, you presented us with some very interesting events and concepts that can blow away any kids show characters.
Short story really short. Fuck "canon", write what you want because you want to. The progress of a show should not effect the great story you've got going.
So hey, did you hear Daetrin is working on the sequel to Apotheosis?
