End of Ponies Spoilercast! · 8:55pm Jun 19th, 2018
Hey, everyone! I just wanted to let you guys know that I'm going to be participating in a big Spoiler-cast about End of Ponies, SS&E's first epic work and one that was cancelled before completion. It's been the proverbial 'elephant in the room' for Skirts for many years, and he's finally going to be talking about how the story was going to end. We'll be doing the podcast on the 24th, in the evening.
Here's a link to SS&E's Blog about it.
So, that leads us to MY unfinished piece of that story... my very first published story here on FimFiction, Red Wings. If EOP is finally, truly done, what does that mean for Red Wings?
Well, to make a long story short: Red Wings is done. Sort of. If you want to hear about it, you should come and check out the podcast on the 24th.
To explain, though: Red Wings was written with a lot of the plot irrevocably tied to EOP and the upcoming arcs of the story, including the Petra arc that was attempted several times. With EOP's official cancellation, it leaves me with few options. I could re-write Red Wings, and make it so the story is not tied to EOP and Scootaloo so directly. What would that look like? I'm really not certain.
Diamond Dog stories are rare, and I liked writing a story from the point of view of a non-pony character. There's something to be said for Red and the culture of the post-apocalypse diamond dogs that I created. But, without EOP, Red Wings doesn't really have a reason for being. Red Wings would need to be reborn as a totally new story. Perhaps with similar plot conciets, and a similar setting, but... with nothing to anchor it to EOP, I might as well write a Fallout: Equestria side story. And considering I'm neck-deep in editing a massive FoE story, Dead Tree, I really don't see myself working on an FoE story anytime soon.
Honestly, present writing projects get rare enough updates, as is, so I really want to keep my focus on what I'm currently writing, or future projects... But, I've been thinking about Red Wings a lot as I envision future projects, and stealing ideas from the plans I had for that story. There's a story that I've been wanting to write for a while now, involving a non-pony main character (no, not a human!) that brings to mind Red Wings when I think about how that story should progress.
For now, though, know that my focus is on the present, with Man Cannot Live On Coffee Alone, as well as a few commissions that should be happening soon. Maybe, once Man Cannot Live On Coffee Alone is a bit further along, I will re-visit some of the ideas for Red Wings, and make something new from the ashes of the wasteland.
Red Wings was sweet, dude. I'd love to see it continued in some form or another.
... Conflicted about the spoilercast, but overall I guess it is the right decision. I'll try to listen in.
