If Only I Had Time - Released! · 12:50am Jun 5th, 2018
Alright, guys! The new fic has dropped! Here are some details you might want to know:
Life was pretty routine for Spike: Wake up, eat some food, keep Twilight and Starlight in check, go back to bed. It was a simple life, if not a bit predictable.
All that changes when Celestia calls on him to defeat an evil force that threatens to tear Equestria to pieces. What's more, the only way to defeat this force is to travel over a thousand years into the past and prevent it from existing in the first place.
Things just got a bit more complicated for the dragon.
1. This story is going to be a big one. Like, the current plan will take it to around 120k words. It may be a little more, might be a little less. It'll depend on what happens when I flesh out the scenes. However, I do plan on releasing at least one chapter a week until its done. I should be able to finish it by the end of the year.
2. This fic takes place exactly four years after current canon. That puts Spike at 19 years of age according to my headcanon about him. He stands about a foot taller than most ponies.
3. The body of the story takes place over a thousand years in the past due to time travel and such. That being said, it contains quite a few OC's and some of my own world-building and headcanon. Just because she's adorable, here's a picture of the main OC that will be featured, Ellidee!
Thanks to Doctor Disco for gifting that picture to me. On that note, I will be providing a complete introduction blog to Ellidee and some of the other OC's in the near future. Like, tomorrow or the day after. Stay tuned for that. You won't be disappointed.
4. Last but not least, this story will follow the actual show's canon as much as possible. I love writing show-accurate stories and this is no different. Also, this story has quite a few other inspirations. These include Star Trek Voyager, Final Fantasy X, Timeline and The Discover album from Born of Osiris. If you are familiar with any of those mediums, you may notice a few good-natured references or callback jokes to them. Knowledge of those isn't remotely necessary, but it's more of an easter egg than anything.
5. In a similar vein to Blonde Moments, this story will be a bit more patient than some others. It'll take its time developing characters, emotions and scenes. However, it will also have mystery, intrigue and other things to carry the plot at a good pace. I hope you all enjoy.
Well, I think that sums it up! If you have any questions about the story arcs, characters or whatever, let me know!
Just saw this now as I'm heading to bed. I'm excited to read this story in the morning.
Also, Timeline references? Sweet! I'll probably pick up on all of those.
I'll definitely be following this. Take my word, as someone who's written a 181k word story before, the longer the story gets the easier it is for plot holes to spring up. Definitely plan out a basic plot structure ahead of time so you don't write a scene that contradicts something else established 10 chapters ago.

Trust me, bro. I learned my lesson last time I tried to write this thing. I've got a huge excel program for outlining this beast, including 81 separate scenes planned and detailed ahead of time.
Just one question. Who's he smooching?! It's important!

Damn, that's some serious dedication. I'm excited to see where this goes.
4876526 That actually sounds like an excellent idea. Is that program easy to use? I've never even opened it, but I would love to start doing that for my next big story.
