Fifth Fimfic Anniversary · 9:47pm May 23rd, 2018

Well, actually it was two days ago, but still. In case you wonder, I wasn't very active in the period between May (when I made an account) and August (when I posted a first story) though my faves from that period indicate that I've been reading fics no one remembers about these days. In case you wonder, this is my first faved story on fimfic, exactly five years and two days ago:

TCMC Alcoholics 2: Next Stop, Canterlot!
Our three heroes go on a trip to Canterlot to visit Sweetie Belle's family. While there, they discover that even Canterlot ponies can have a stash of delicious cider. What could possibly go wrong?

Reading it now and thinking of my own writing, I could only come to one conclusion: it explains everything.
Let's forget for a moment that the first fics I ever read, even before making a fimfiction account were, in order, Rainbow Factory, Cupcakes, and The Cupcake Chronicles by milesprower06. This probably also explains many things.

Nevertheless, I feel that my fimfic presence only took off after writing my first fic (no shit, Sherlock). It most definitely wasn't good. In fact, the first fic I can (barely) look at without cringing is The Sharpest Tool, although a later A Kingdom Divided most definitely has a lot of cringey moments (well, writing a 100k epic as your fourth fic is probably not something I'd advise to any aspiring writer).

2013 trivia:
#1 At first I was supposed to write only one fic. Then I changed my mind, deciding not to write porn. You can guess how well it went.
#2 When looking for a prereader for A Kingdom Divided, I estimated the overall story length to be around 60-80k words. Since then I don't estimate word counts.

Needless to say, 2013 was a dark time, but on the other hand, 2014 was probably my best year ever: while it seems The Great Barn Robbery, Creation and Daring Do and The Golden Shower seem to be (unjustly) forgotten1) (also, I wonder if anyone remembers Of Rocks and Wubs was my first fic to get a youtube reading. Twice), 2014 was also a year when I wrote Way To Go, Minuette, Way To Go!, First Bat's Problems, Sleepless, and Well, This is Awkward were written. Zombons, while less known, marks the first fic influenced by Diamond Cutters Skype2) group.

2014 trivia:
#1 I never planned to expand Way To Go, Minuette, Way To Go! beyond the initial scene. That's why the plot doesn't exist until very late in the story.
#2 At least two murders were cut from Sleepless because they didn't fit the plot.
#3 The concept for Manehattan Blues is probably older than Sleepless. I actually wanted to write it as a standalone at first, but then I figured out the way of connecting those two fics which eventually became Children of Equestria.

2015 marked a few successful sequels (WTiA II: Revenge of the Interns springs to mind) as well as popular standalone stories like Celestia's Day Out or Scientific Analysis (the latter is totally not shameless porn okay, it is). I didn't write as much as before due to having more IRL stuff to do. Hence more one-shots too.

2015 trivia:
#1 I wrote Stick a Pin in It with the "let's see just how sick are people on fimfic" in mind. Judging by the ratio, not as much;
#2 Outside has probably the worst prereaders/votes ratio of all my fics. Four people3), a whooping 13:0. That's what you get when you write unpopular characters.

I apparently started 2016 with Mission Control. I actually wrote a bit of a sequel for this one, but I don't feel like finishing it yet. Maybe one day, I guess, though at this point it'd probably more of "what could have been" kinda thing. The highlight of the year was definitely WTiA III: Interesting Innovative Insertions, popular enough to get featured and boost its prequels into the popular column, years after they were published. My Roommate is a Murderer and Right on Schedule are actually two of my personal faves. Worth mentioning are also an unexpected feature for The Sibling Situation and The Safest Space becoming a sleeper hit.

2016 trivia:
#1 It seems that I do better on even years;
#2 Springtime for Shimmer. is probably my ultimate example of writing for fun rather than fame. There was no way it'd be hugely popular, not with how fucked up it was. The idea was brewing for years and yet I still wrote it or else it wouldn't let me live.

2017 kinda sucked. Six fics, no features (first time since 2013). If it wasn't for It's the End of the World As We Know It, it'd be even worse. Well, this fic is not hugely popular, but I just liked writing it and the feedback I got. No trivia for this one – I'll probably write a separate blog about It's the End of the World As We Know It trivia, deleted scenes, and alternate possibilities I've been considering for this fic. Until then, you can ask questions about any fic I wrote :pinkiehappy:

As for 2018, it's shaping up pretty well, so far. A feature (for porn again, well...), four new stories, more of them planned (WTiA V: Vile Vicious Vision, anyone?). We'll see next year. And at least for another five, i hope :pinkiehappy:

Oh no! He may write about us again!

1) Daring Do and The Golden Shower is kinda notable due to being the first fic of mine Bootsy Slickmane read, and a quick look at the story descriptions reveals how important a fact it was.
2) We're no longer on Skype, but we exist.
3) It just occured to me that of all the people who preread this fic only Snowybee is still active on fimfiction.

It is a crime that this fic is not more popular. But I look forward to the trivia post ^^

First Bat's Problems

I remember this one for some reason

Well, This is Awkward

I read this more recently to catch up with the latest one you released, since I hadn't read the first entries in the series. WTiA III contains one of my favorite out-of-context lines of any Fimfiction story (“Fillies and gentlecolts, I fucked an octopus!”)

Right on Schedule

You know how much I like this one, although it wasn't until I re-read it that I realized how much of a prototype it was for ITEOTWAWKI.

My Roommate is a Murderer

I haven't read this but it sounds like I should.

The Sibling Situation

I enjoyed the meta-ness of this one, and the sequel too. Wait, that was 2 years ago?!

The Safest Space

I read this recently to get the background for Even Safer Space. Diamond Tiara is best demon.

Congratulations! You are old!May your future years bring even more fics!

Not that context makes it much better :rainbowlaugh:

Indeed. I wrote that bit about Indigo and Bulk and I was like, "hmm, I should write this sometime".

I haven't read this but it sounds like I should.

It's a perfectly normal Vinyl and Octavia story, I swear.

Thanks :pinkiehappy:

Congratulations! Five years, it's a lot of time. I met ponies only two years ago. :unsuresweetie:

I'm alive!
