[Review/Recap] Miraculous Ladybug Season 2 Episode 2: "Prime Queen" (SPOILERS) · 5:02am Apr 24th, 2018

A career-ending disaster in live primetime results in TV journalist Nadja Chamack becoming the supervillain Prime Queen.

Nadja Chamack has scored her own primetime talk show, but her producer is putting a lot of pressure on her, and if her first live show doesn't pull in good ratings, she isn't going to get to do a second. For her first show, she's interviewing Ladybug and Chat Noir.

Right off the bat, things go south for her. Ladybug shows up at literally the last possible second, taking callers turns into an epic train wreck, and her producer screaming in her ear doesn't help matters. Trying to turn things back around, Nadja decides to play her trump card--she presses Ladybug and Chat Noir about their relationship status. Chat Noir likes this topic and eggs her on, but Ladybug is determined to shut her down--moreso when Nadja trots out a series of pictures taken out of context that make them look like a couple. Ultimately, Ladybug loses her temper and leaves in a huff. Chat Noir leaves with her, and Nadja's debut show is effectively ruined.

Having been burned on live television makes Nadja a prime target for Hawk Moth, who Akumatizes her into Prime Queen. Given the power to take over the airwaves and use TV screens as warp portals, Prime Queen takes first Chloe Bourgeois then Alya Cesaire hostage, attempting to use them to force Ladybug and Chat Noir to confess to being a couple, then to reveal their identities. After some rather narrow escapes, they manage to defeat and purify her.

Nadja gets a second chance at a primetime show, and on her first show, invites Alya as a guest--and Alya sets the record straight about Ladybug and Chat Noir's relationship.

This is a relatively middle-tier episode. The opening bit is great, the Akuma fight is...honestly kind of meh. The best part of the episode is the running gag of Chat Noir aggressively flirting with Ladybug and Ladybug's annoyed rebuffs, although the events of "Glaciator" temper that a bit. All in all, I'd give this one a 7/10.

Things to watch for: Chat Noir's reaction to the kiss from "Heartbreaker", which he has no memory of because he was mind-controlled at the time.

Also, this episode begins an ALARMINGLY long string of season 2 episodes where Marinette/Ladybug are directly or indirectly responsible for an Akuma attack...

Hey, at least she's not Chloe.

I know, right? I mean, even Hawk Moth knows about this to the point where he sends an Akuma in advance knowing Chloe will piss someone off.

Huh. Until you pointed that out, I didn't realize that Marinette/Ladybug did cause a fair number of Akuma attacks to occur. That's... huh.

She's second only behind Chloe in causing Akuma. Between seasons one and two, she's directly and primarily to blame for:
The Gamer
Antibug
Volpina
Santa Claws
Prime Queen
Befana
Riposte
Glaciator

She shares blame for several others, including Dark Owl and Timebreaker.

To be fair, Antibug was inevitable, but I do see your point. They DO say it's always the Hero who makes the Villain, sometimes. I think?

4846580
Wasn't the Puppeteer indirectly caused by Marinette as well? I mean, it's a bit of a stretch, but still.

4846665
Not really? Nadja Chamack was DIRECTLY responsible for the Puppeteer for taking the doll AWAY from Manon, but with the epic tantrum Manon was throwing, she'd probably have wound up Akumatized no matter who did what.

Yeah, I wasn't quite sure about that one.

Woah, I didn't even realize that last point until now. Interesting. I loved the chemistry between our two heroes in this episode. Alya is literally the best friend anyone could have at this point, watching the little one and not even getting mad. This is sort of the norm for her, and she takes it all in stride. Pretty hero worthy, eh? :raritywink:

I can’t remember exactly but I think this episode also confirmed that chat noir. Can Actuly purr like an actual cat

Oh yeah, that was a thing that happened too.

Let the memes begin I suppose =3
