As those of you have been with me for awhile will know I briefly restarted the Broken series some time ago with ‘Broken: Love’, a story that focused on Starlight as the hero and Princess Cadance and an ensourcelled Crystal Empire as a villains.
Truthfully there was always going to be more to that story and ‘Broken: Life’ was going to be the next ‘chapter’ so to speak. I started writing it before I was even finished writing ‘Broken: Love’. Unfortunately I ended up being distracted by other projects and the story remains unfinished.
Worse, I’ve left it in that state long enough that some of the story doesn’t hold up anymore, particularly the scenes where Starlight meets Princess Ember for the first time and a lot of the story to do with Spike still having some remnant of his Dragon Lord status.
It’s still a fun story and I especilally love how the characters turned out, but I’m unfortunately at the point where I’m not sure if I can finish the story or not.
Even the cover-art is unfinished and I commissioned that close to two years ago now. (Not that this really has any effect on my writing, I just think it’s funny)
So here is ‘Broken: Life’, a Broken story about Spike’s origins and place in the world and how his birthright was taken from him. It would have dwelled on the idea of what is better, dwelling on a life that might have been but is now lost, or living the life that you have with the friends that you love but knowing it’s all a sham.
It would have also introduced the villain for the next story, ‘Broken: Death’... but if I can’t finish this story I’m not sure I can bring myself to start the next.
At least say who the villain of Broken:Death was.
